Got Urotsukidoji 1: Legend of Overfiend (1989) [R0332] the other day. Figured I should give it a watch. Now I'm scarred for life. Got like 10 minutes in, saw a bunch of tentacles going places they should not be on a female body, turned it off. Guess this one goes in the "fun as a curiosity, but not going to watch again" pile.

There are many "tentacle" animes out there, you should probably look stuff up on anibd, animenfo or MAL before you buy it.
I personally don't dislike Urotsukidoji at all. But I did not like the english dub. I prefer subtitled with japanese audio.

Nah, looking it up first doesn't make it as interesting. It wasn't bad in general, but it was a bit too much for me that tentacle part. I thought it would have original Japanese audio on analog tracks and english CC, but apparently not. I'm not too much of a fan with dubs either.

Cheating with SPT Layzner on download with subs on CRT via VAIO HTPC. Great gritty series I had always wanted to see in the days of fansub tapes. Will finally watch Orguss all the way through next, then Votoms.

Otherwise rewatching my Macross II LDs and enjoying the pure picture quality. Anime doesn't look better than it does on LD.

And you didn't even get to the part with the Nazi Death Rape Machine!

Picked up the Macross memorial TV box in Tokyo the other day. Good to have a correctly coloured version. Have had the colour "enhanced" Animeigo DVD box since about 2000 and it has never sat right with me.

Over the last couple of nights, at the Dallas Makerspace, I showed Sol Bianca, some Urusei Yatsura, Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikkoku, & Gekigangar 3, along with various music-video selections from Gall Force, Cutey Honey, Earthian, & Escaflowne.

Endured it a 2nd time now and watched the whole disc this time. Didn't see any nazis. :( There was a rather grotesque death rape nevertheless. Still not my cup of tea this stuff, though.

Just finished Record of Lodoss War. What a great OVA-love the super detailed character designs, humor of Parn's idiocy, best elf in anime Deedlit, the works. It got me to wondering how hard it would be assemble a rot free set of Lodoss laserdiscs, as the show is a notorious rotter (2 LDs in the series of mine show rot). The Lodoss box is uncommon, in the west at least, but not a rotter I recall.

The recent Bluray remaster from the 35mm masters was very cool, with subtitled rips easily available in that stunning quality.

Is Record of Lodoss War known rotters? Wow, guess I were really lucky with mine then. Can't recall any issues when I watched my laserdiscs of the OVA.

Didn't know it was on BD. Guess I'll have to get that one. I really liked Record of Lodoss War too.

Yeah, the Lodoss discs were known for rot issues. Looking through the Google Groups Usenet archive shows what an issue it was-lot's of complaints back in the day. As your copies show, it is possible to assemble a clean set and if the rot didn't show up years ago they are probably safe :). Some nice LD jackets for this show.

That's coool, it's like a playlist of my anime club in Canberra in 1996. What source/s did you use?

I have the box — LP picture disc, phosphorescent paper labels, & all. Guess I was just lucky.

All LDs, if that's what you're asking. The KOR & UY were AnimEigo US releases, & the Sol Bianca was the ADV US release, all with subtitles. The remainder were Japanese discs, some with genlocked subtitles.

So awesome. That Dallas Makerspace for community groups is the kind of thing that's really lacking in Australia. Want to use any public space to do anything? You gotta pay. And pay bigtime.

You inspired me actually, to relive the days of the Canberra Anime Society (where each attendee had to pay $5 a screening to cover room rental even in the '90s). I looked up a couple of community halls. Like not even halls, just small rooms in community centres. Yep $50 a hour minimum. f**k that.

Damn. Here, there are a lot more possibilities, I guess. So, for instance, my coin club used to meet at something called the "Center for Community Cooperation", which was basically a building operated by a non-profit specifically to provide meeting rooms to other non-profits! They were supported by some mixture of grants & donations, so the only fee was $5 for coffee service. I think there was a fee if you reserved space (had to be done two weeks ahead of time) & didn't show up. Right now we're meeting at a church one of our members is part of, & I think we pay them a little.

That's cool. It's good to know in this age that people are still meeting up face to face and enjoying the classics. Thanks for your posts. btw Gunbuster is beyond classic! In my top 3 ever anime productions, along with Macross TV and Macross DYRL
