Yeah, it's hilarious. Could not imagine watching it dubbed. Some recent dubs are okay, but that was done in the dark ages.

so i've been so enamored with my BANDAI PERFECT GRADE 1/60 RX-0 UNICORN GUNDAM that i went ahead and decided to roll the dice on the series it's attached to. we'll see if it can come even remotely close to the singularly shining moment in GUNDAM excellence (IMHO)that is 0083; STARDUST MEMORY... (i don't personally hold much hope of that)Attachment:

"THE WINNER" and "MAGIC" are easily among the greatest OP/ED songs in the history of Anime, IMO. they totally made my jaw hit the floor when i first came across them via the early U.S. ANIME VILLAGE VHS edition of 0083 back in the late-90's/early-00's.
really, the only bad thing about 0083 in general, IMO, is that, being the first GUNDAM entry i ever got to see, it gave me a distorted initial picture of what i was to come to expect out of the GUNDAM franchise extant.
YMMV as always, but IMO, GUNDAM in general suffers hard for it's abject overall lack of the incredibly slick sense of style that 0083 carries with an easy swagger.
indeed, 0083; STARDUST MEMORY for me was like; GUNDAM!!! WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?! then WING, SEED and the like followed up on it's heels, and i was like OH. Nevermind then...

gypsy wrote: Imo Unicorn is better than Stardust Memory, animation style aside. Both are good though. Both are absolutely amazing from an animation perspective with my preference being for the CG-free 0083 in that area. However as a Gundam show 0083 was basically Shadows of the Empire, an attempt to continue the franchise in a story bubble designed specifically not to spoil any details of the actual main Gundam storyline. Since Tomino never really explained what a Newtype was to anyone nobody else would use them. 0083 is almost exactly Top Gun in space. Much better than Top Gun but not actual Gundam it’s a toss up. Unicorn on the other had was the long LONG awaited return to the main Gundam story that we had been waiting for since around the time 0083 was in planning and IMO its excellent at doing its job. It has a victory redefining “Shenmue 2” sort of ending that I liked but I think a lot of people probably didn’t. If you haven’t seen 0079, Zeta, ZZ, and CCA then most of Unicorn will be lost on you. I haven’t seen the TV edit. The sequel, Gundam NT, is for sure worth watching. I once met Mio at a thing in NJ. Her English is way above average, the outfit was poofy, I don’t remember much else. Her voice is LEGIT. I always loved the girls who refused to be straight up idols.

Well for all Seed's problems, it still works as a gateway drug for those who find themselves to be real-robo-inclined. I feel most at home in mainline UC though. The animation, music and just how characters act creates an aestethic to be cherished.

while i've long been fond of Lacus Clyne, aside from her, SEED has never had even one thing to offer me.
the MS are all pretty much uniform in their seemingly proud display of unimaginative, disinterested blandness of overall concept and design, most especially embodied within the principal GUNDAM MS.
YMMV, and no offense to it's fans meant, and all that, but that adorable "Pregnant Spacesuit" scene of Lacus' was pretty much the only thing i was ever able to take away from SEED, besides throughly unimpressed disappointment...
