Everyone I know that watch anime (roughly the same age as described above), refuse to watch anything made before 2005. Obviously old is bad quality. I'd also say pre-2000 would be classics in this case.

So my friend asked me to help her host a panel at this tiny startup con at a college campus on "Classic" anime (pretty much anime from <2000) since she likes older anime as well, so I'm planning on bringing some titles on Laserdisc. Thinking Escaflowne, Giant Robo, Tenchi Muyo, Here is Greenwood. Magic Knight Rayearth. Any other suggestions (provided I have them in my collection but forgot I had them)? Also, from a technical standpoint, which player should i use? It's going to connected to a projector and I have either a Panasonic LX-900 or a Pioneer CLD-97 available to travel. |

I'd say use the LX-900. After using several different players for my classics shows (most memorably, one year, my HIL-C2EX), I have settled on this one as a good traveler, not too bulky, & with completely adequate picture quality. One thing I did discover, though, was that after sitting for 20 hours in a super-air-conditioned video room, it took a couple of minutes to warm up before it would play! Those are some good selections, but I'd also suggest Kimagure Orange Road, Urusei Yatsura or Ranma 1/2, Bubblegum Crisis, Gall Force, Project A-Ko... there are a lot of possibilities, really. I'm not going to suggest something like Moldiver or Kishin Corps, & as much as I personally love El-Hazard, if you're bringing some Tenchi, you don't need another similar AIC production. |

Usually when people decide what is "classic" the age of the people deciding doesn't matter. 2000 was actually kind of a watershed. Things pretty much went to hell right around there, but this is coincidental. |

Ok, I'll bring the LX-900 with a DVDO line doubler. I do have the OVAs and TV box sets for KOR, so that's an idea. As well as the crappily packaged UY TV box. I have the Ranma 1/2 OVAs on LD as well. Decisions, decisions . . . |

"Ai Yori Aoshi" and "Chobits" are two of the finest standouts that come immediately to mind... |

Not so great. It was a tiny, tiny, tiny con. So only 4 people showed up for the panel. But we did show them clips of GTO, Dragon Half, Giant Robo and Escaflowne. They were all very well received, and I was asked by one of the young attendees if Giant Robo was on crunchyroll. Unfortunately, I couldn't answer them since I don't use crunchyroll
