Im a huge Sailor Moon fan , so after I collected all the USA DVDs, I started collecting the LaserDiscs.

Its so weird but the USA DVDs, and VHS were super cropped compared to the Laserdisc version for season 3, I haven't checked the other seasons yet.

The top is the LaserDisc, middle Pioneer DVD, bottom is the Pioneer VHS

Image

Im currently capturing all of the season :D

Her hair looks more detailed, and her skin tone is more pink in the original release.

Its so cool that the old footage shows more of the image.

The DVD shes so pale looking

As much as I prefer the look of anime on LD over DVD or Bluray you do know that there should be no "grain" right?

Technically correct but it's still jarring going from all other releases of something like City Hunter compared to the BD with all that dnr.

It does look a little bit off compared to all past releases. But it pretty much looks like a cell now :D While it does look a hell of a lot cleaner, i guess im used to the old look of it :D

Id like to know if anyone has their favorite anime's on multiple formats just to compare sizes and color .

I feel the same way, I'm used to how it looks on LD, but then again I've been watching some of the anime I own since 2000 and even since 1991.
Its hard for someone like me to watch the GE999 movie box that I've owned since around 1990-91 and then enjoy how it looks on DVD or Bluray.
I'm just used to it for too long.

I think the GE999 is the only thing I have on LD and DVD right now, everything else I just have for subs or planning on selling it but I still own it
until someone buys it from me.

I won't bother with bluray, its just not a format for me, I'm at the age where I have just noticed my eyes going and need readers
so image doesn't matter to me as much now rather the enjoyment of the material.

These Sailor Moon LD captures are not even"comb filtered" they look terrible off focus, mixed colors and croma double image...please use a crt tv to watch your Ldiscs.
The DNR applied to the Bluray release is a crime.
The VHS as always pretty good.

It is the way. I've never been happy with tapes or LDs on anything else.

I was wondering about the colors of these captures myself but I am very much not an expert, they just seemed off to me.

A few. I generally do not because of the big shipping cost from Japan for big LD sets. Every anime tv series set I do have, shipping was more than the item.

Something I do have in multiple formats is Ghost in the Shell. The LD is my favorite.

Whats comb filtered? And croma double image.? I don't know a lot of technical stuff about video, I collect these because I think its fun. Its became my hobby ;D

But I do want to capture these to save the old look of it, any suggestions?

I own a CLD-99, and a DVL-919. For players

For scalers I have
DVDO iScan Duo Video Processor High Definition MM701

Silicon Image DVDO Scan Pro

XRGB-Mini Framemeister

Faroudja DVP 3000

KDS Key Digital Systems HD Leeza - KD-HD 1080P

To capture

I have several Haupage models, and Elgato boxes

If you can please use a LD player to a crt tv or crt monitor directly vía composite vídeo rca cable ,as simple as that and you will realize that LD quality is another very different thing

It’s true. You can capture the LD signal but you can’t capture the LD viewing experience. You can only see it in person.

Don't worry about the technology terms just watch it on a TV rather than through the computer.

Signofzeta expressed it perfectly
Another options are a small LCD tv whose specs clearly announce 3D comb filter for composite inputs, or using a Panasonic/Samsung DVD recorder as an av receiver to pass through the signal but anyway a good crt is what LD is made for

If this all sounds like LD and CRT are black magic well that is basically true.

You can spend a lot of money on upscalers/processors and spend a lot of time tweaking them. I have done this myself. Lumagen, DVDO, Micomsoft, Extron, Faroudja, Silicon Optix I still own processors from all these companies. Many are in chains that I use daily but not for LD. Or you can hook it up to a CRT and it will look better. For LD I think HD CRT sets are just amazing but standard def is fine too.

Agree, medium to high level consumer grade crts or composite based PVMs are the natural house for the LD signal
