Hello, I have roughly 20+ Pioneer laserdisc players (V2200, V2400, V5000, V2600, etc.) that are for parts/repair. Most are on eBay for $40 plus shipping, however are not selling. Should I wait it out or start selling the interior parts? If this is recommended, what parts should I focus on and what parts should I ignore. The issues include tray not closing, video not playing, doesn't power on, etc. Thanks for the help!

So you mean "laser disc players", not laser discs themselves. You should probably change the title of your post (I think you can edit your first post to do so).

Buying broken players is always a gamble. Unlike something like record players which are a fairly straightforward affair, with laserdisc players you can never be sure if they can be repaired at all, and most of these are fairly low end players since they're industrial models. They could simply need regreasing and new belts, or the whole spindle motor or laser assembly is shot and then repairing them will be more trouble and money than they're worth.

You're asking people to take that gamble. $40 may not be a lot, but again, these are only industrial models.

Going back even to the 80s I think…Industrial players were rarely worth repairing. This isn’t because they are low end, the opposite. They almost never break. People gave me working industrial players back when LD was still being made. There are a lot of them out there and their durability is amazing so I’ve never had to repair one ever. I’ve never even seen one broken.

I would concentrate on selling the working ones and scrap the broken ones.

Interesting post! How do you even accumulate so many of these? .. and all similar models!

I was able to find your listings on eBay. To me, I think the issue is the cosmetic condition of these. Several of them listed are destroyed beyond repair. I'm seeing completely caved in top panels, huge dents, and cracks/scratches to the front plates. Here's the issue:

1. Folks only look for electronics that are 'worth fixing'. This means a player with good cosmetics, or a high-end model, or something with special functions/rare & desirable abilities. It usually boils down to a combination of these factors. Others have said here that the industrial units aren't as desirable (even when functional), so you have that working against you to start with... but the high order bit is, no matter what models you have, they are in really rough shape, so people will only consider them for parts (as a donor unit) to fix another unit in good shape... not as a project to repair.

2. Second issue is, if all the units are in bad shape (like the ones I see), potential buyers won't trust the parts coming out of them to be good and undamaged. I wouldn't buy a mangled LD player if I was looking for a new tray or laser... too risky.

IF I WERE YOU, and I had 20+ laserdisc players... I'd examine all of them and use the parts from the bad condition units to fix the ones that were in nicer shape. Exchanging top panels, front panels, and maybe even seeing if belts or something obvious could be fixed might just yield you some working units to sell! It's obviously more work, but if I was buying my first laserdisc player, an industrial player would be attractive to me if the price was right!
