Free! - large collection of LDs! Plus one working Pioneer DVL-919 LD/DVD player (and one non-working Pioneer for parts.) I only need the recipient to pick-up the boxes and drive-off…I’d help lift but have bad back. Zip code 06804.

I don’t want these to go to waste…am looking for an appreciative home for this inherited a collection of nearly 700 LDs that I have carefully stored for years. (I am moving…now without room.) Most in excellent condition. I catalogued 612 titles onto spreadsheet - that won't attach here but can email to interested party - and have about 70 more – foreign, opera, without barcodes, a few collections in only plastic jackets (such as entire Twilight Zone series), etc...RT in CT

Sent a PM and waiting.
Hope we can work something out.
Would fill up all the space in my house that I just cleared out.

Hi. These need to be out by weekend before Thanksgiving. They are now in about 15 boxes that were cardboard cases of wine from a liquor store. FYI: I stored them easily in 2 sets of those strong plastic shelving units that were about 18" deep by 36" across by about 70" high - 4 levels. Would fit in less space since there was room on each shelf.

If it doesn't work out with Rein-O let me know, I'm only two hours away from you all of next week, and would love to do the drive for a collection of that size.

Hi rvt3cat,

thanks for doing this - so sad when LDs & players end up on a tip or in landfill sites.

When the time comes to get rid of my LDs & players (when I am dead, don't foresee them going before then) I doubt my wife or son will go down the selling route. They know to put a post on here & someone else can be the custodian of them - one of my players & my F1 LDs will be held onto by my son as he is a motorsport follower & loves the footage on many of the F1 LDs. That is the plan but time will tell.

Hope these end up with someone who may hold onto some & pass the rest on however that may be, selling swaps or whatever but as long as the player & the big silver discs survive that can only be a good thing.

Thanks again rvt3cat.

Cheers,

John

Unfortunately my wife isn't too keen on this amount of discs more in the house.
I do hope others can pick these up in time.
I did see the list and there are some great classics in this lot.
And if one can get that player working its worth it as the 919 is a nice player and others here have experience on repairing them.

What's special about the 919 in particular? I don't know too much about specific players, I was honestly lucky/happy getting the one I have now, which is the Denon LA2100.

The 919 (& the 909) were the LD-DVD combo players.

They reached the retail market in 1998 & 1999 so among the last built but PIONEER did produce the 919 for a number of years after though not in large numbers.

Basic & "early" DVD unit inside.

The LD unit is not bad at all but I always felt the picture was rather soft compared to some other LD players.

It is worth having & any working LD deserves to live on.

I really hope the player & the LDs get moved on & not lost to a dump or landfill.

Cheers

There are many reasons to like and dislike the 919.
If you can fix it and have a working player then you should like it.
I had one and with CRT stuff it was alright but I didn't need it at the time, almost 15 years ago now.
If I had one now I would think differently about the player.

Also there are lots of parts in those players that I'm sure can be swapped out for other parts in other players.

Definitely interesting, hopefully everything works out and I'll be picking up that lot next week :)

Update: the collection and those 2 players are again available! But Time is running out.
Unfortunately Our last interested party really wanted but had to pass on it.
We now need to have out by mid-November. To transport would require vehicle at least minivan size or volume..like covered pickup truck; or at least a way to cover the boxes, say, with a tarp...
They are in mostly open boxes set for pickup in Connecticut.

I hope they found a good home as well. Probably about 1,500 miles away from me unfortunately.
