New MOFI SACDs: Clapton Unplugged & Thriller

I was putting off and putting off getting this MJ Thriller SACD, but finally decided that I didn't want to spend the $35 to get it ontop of shipping. Decided to check out HDTracks to see what they offered.

They had it in 24-bit/88.2khz, 24-bit/176.4khz FLAC and DSD. I've read that the FLAC version of this album on HDTracks were sourced from the DSD master so I figured, might as well get the DSD version then since I'll mostly be listening to the album on my portables anyway. Plus, HDTracks always has that 25% sale at the end of every month--so I basically paid half for the DSD over the SACD.

Sounds amazing, but I do have to wonder how different it is from the Mo-Fi release. Google AI says the HDTracks DSD version is taken from the Sony/Epic 2006 SACD but can't find anything concrete to confirm that.

Julien do you have both the 2006 SACD and the MoFi SACD?

So according to that the Dynamic Range on the old Sony SACD is slightly higher?

I suppose it's a case of 'love the art, hate the artist' - something that has been discussed since the days of Richard Wagner.

For myself, I find one member of Pink Floyd to be fairly vile. But I like a lot of the songs he wrote...

So I haven't bought any Floyd releases for over a decade now, as I don't want him to get the royalties. If I outlive him I might buy one or two things I've been resisting buying. Unless he arranges for his post-mortem earnings to go to some extremist political organisation, of course...
