I can't recommend the 5.1 SACD remix because it sounds like stereo with some minor surround activity. The Alan Parsons original quad mix is MUCH better and sounds fantastic on the Blu-ray issue. In fact, I would say Parsons Dark Side quad mix is the ultimate quad mix ever done, it's THAT good and the mix fits the lyrics instead of just random channel placement. |

Both are good, and as I'm a fan of The Alan Parsons Project I certainly enjoy his take on the album, but I enjoy the SACD more as the mix is closer to the original, the Parson's mix is strikingly different in places. I think the surround mix on the Dark Side SACD is excellent and would highly recommend it, but the Parson's mix is great for a change every now and then. I love the Wish You Were Here SACD too, both beautiful. I've always been surprised that given Alan Parson's interest in Quad during the 70s that he's never released any of his own material in a surround format. The I Robot album would make a great multi channel SACD, the recent 30th Anniversary release was a real let down I thought. |

Parsons released his On Air album in DTS 5.1 on Brad Miller's HDS label - its a wonderful mix and great album. I don't know how hard the album is to find now. |

Cheers, I'll have to chase that one down. It's an awesome album - Christopher Cross sings on it and the surround mix is just incredible. Originally it was a true quad mix but DTS made him make it a 5.1 so he did and it came out even better. If you can't find the DTS CD, i'll make a copy for you. |

Sorry..I have to slightly disagree on the 2.0 stereo front. DSOTM was one of the first SACD's I ever bought; and I gave it a very critical listen. I noticed, at times; where you could hear the physical limitations of the tape...and often times it was slightly distorted. I don't think the master aged very well; and they didn't want to recreate the 2.0 mix from the 5.1 mix. The 5.1 mix is very good; but if you're a plain stereo fan (like me); then you don't want the SACD version; the MFSL edition from the 80's is a cleaner sounding transfer. |

elahrairrah wrote: I'm torn. This release (based on a 2018 mix that was shelved) is quite a surprise given that Pink Floyd is negotiating the sale of their whole catalog. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-10947693/Pink-Floyd-talks-sell-music-catalog-500M-richest-music-sales.html It might be a tactical move to prove that their catalog still holds value well. That would explain the multi-format release to show the appeal to different people. Julien |
