With the demise of Audio Fidelity in 2018, the source of publishers of new SACDs lost a great activist.

Luckily another UK label is doing well and even releasing some of of Audio Fidelity stereo releases in both stereo and quad.

They keep digging old Quad mixes (or SQ when the masters were lost):

Might have to investigate that Michel Legrand disc. After all, he composed one of the greatest soundtracks to, unarguably (yes, really), the greatest motor racing film ever made, or will ever be made in future.

I only own the LD and it may be a little compressed on the sides, but I too feel its a great film, sometimes better than Gran Prix but I love that one too.
My wife told me about Grand Prix and then I discovered the other, I own a few Steve films but don't really care about him as an actor or possibly a person
but his job in Le Mans was great.

If you get a chance, watch Steve McQueen, the man and Le Mans documentary. It's a seriously good watch.

You'll discover things like over 1 million feet of film was shot for Le Mans. It was presumed lost until a couple of years ago when someone found it all buried under a sound stage!

McQueen was targeted by Charles Manson during the filming of Le Mans. He was supposed to go to dinner with Sharon Tate and co on that infamous night. He had to do an errand at the last minute so didn't go. Spent the rest of filming Le Mans with a gun under his pillow.

Loads more trivia too. He granted his last interview used in the documentary to a young junior reporter. He was dying of cancer at the time.

Grand Prix has wonderful moments and it is a worthy contender. But for me, Le Mans was an absolute passion for McQueen. It cost him almost everything, and not just money. Sure one of the drivers was almost killed during filming.

The result though, in my opinion, is a unique racing film. We will never see it's like again, ever. It's on a total other level to anything else that came before or after it.

Best racing film of all time. No contest. It's not even in the same league as other racing films. Totally unique and brilliant.

Le Mans is on my bucket list of events to attend and it's mainly because of the influence this film had on me. There simply is no better race film. Never will be.
