I'm glad the gift you are sending to your friend in the USA will get it and be happy. I do hope you aren't trying to cheat the system and my country by lying and sending merchandise as a gift to bypass the taxes that are imposed. admin wrote: admin wrote: Japan Post is still not accepting anything unless it's "below $100 gift". Thanks Julien for letting us know. According to 50 U.S. Code § 1702 Paragraph (b) (3), regardless of tariffs, the President's authority cannot impose tariffs to music, movies, etc. Here's the verbatim text:
Exceptions to grant of authority The authority granted to the President by this section does not include the authority to regulate or prohibit, directly or indirectly—
(3)the importation from any country, or the exportation to any country, whether commercial or otherwise, regardless of format or medium of transmission, of any information or informational materials, including but not limited to, publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, microfilms, microfiche, tapes, compact disks, CD ROMs, artworks, and news wire feeds. The exports exempted from regulation or prohibition by this paragraph do not include those which are otherwise controlled for export under section 4604 [3] of this title, or under section 4605 [3] of this title to the extent that such controls promote the nonproliferation or antiterrorism policies of the United States, or with respect to which acts are prohibited by chapter 37 of title 18...
Bottom line is that laserdiscs should be exempt from tariffs. I would recommend that sellers shipping items to the US should write in block letters on the outside package: "Informational material - laserdiscs EXEMPT from trariffs under 50 US Code § 1702 (b) (3)"
Best regards
Joe

Hi Joe. Thanks for posting the information about 50 U.S. Code § 1702 Paragraph (b) (3). According to the info I just searched this does not pertain to purchased goods We still have to pay tariffs on purchased goods, even films. wrigleypup wrote: Thanks Julien for letting us know. So after searching again it seems that there are no fees, after asking AI some questions. In my opinion its going to be like whether you get a ticket for speeding or not, if the cop will chase after you or won't, you can possibly talk your way out of it or fight it, you may win or may not. You may fight the law but the law may win??? Again as I said before this stuff is going fast and changing weekly right now. wrigleypup wrote: I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve had to read and make sense of a lot of laws. U.S. laws are written in very specific ways, and when the wording isn’t clear, that’s where loopholes pop up. In this case, the rule in 50 U.S. Code § 1702(b)(3) doesn’t specify if the exemption applies for purchased goods or not. It only specifies that it applies to "informational materials"; therefore, it does not matter if it was purchased or gifted.
