Thanks Julien for letting us know. According to 50 U.S. Code § 1702 Paragraph (b) (3), regardless of tariffs, the President's authority cannot impose tariffs to music, movies, etc. Here's the verbatim text:

Exceptions to grant of authority
The authority granted to the President by this section does not include the authority to regulate or prohibit, directly or indirectly—

(3)the importation from any country, or the exportation to any country, whether commercial or otherwise, regardless of format or medium of transmission, of any information or informational materials, including but not limited to, publications, films, posters, phonograph records, photographs, microfilms, microfiche, tapes, compact disks, CD ROMs, artworks, and news wire feeds. The exports exempted from regulation or prohibition by this paragraph do not include those which are otherwise controlled for export under section 4604 [3] of this title, or under section 4605 [3] of this title to the extent that such controls promote the nonproliferation or antiterrorism policies of the United States, or with respect to which acts are prohibited by chapter 37 of title 18...

Bottom line is that laserdiscs should be exempt from tariffs. I would recommend that sellers shipping items to the US should write in block letters on the outside package: "Informational material - laserdiscs EXEMPT from trariffs under 50 US Code § 1702 (b) (3)"

We still have to pay tariffs on purchased goods, even films.

I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve had to read and make sense of a lot of laws. U.S. laws are written in very specific ways, and when the wording isn’t clear, that’s where loopholes pop up. In this case, the rule in 50 U.S. Code § 1702(b)(3) doesn’t specify if the exemption applies for purchased goods or not. It only specifies that it applies to "informational materials"; therefore, it does not matter if it was purchased or gifted.

I would like to confirm that movies seem to be exempt from these tariffs. I as well as many I know have received DVDs and BDs after tariff implementation which has not been taxed.

Even if you owe nothing in tariffs for informational materials, there's a chance you will still need to pay a significant amount in fees. Customs may charge a "customs processing" fee, and the carrier may charge "brokerage" fees.

A model shop in Europe I get stuff from since 2013 has a pop up on their website that simply says “We do not support delivery to the United States.” I guess I’ll have to get my resin cast carburetors and hand turned intake trumpets from some guy in Ohio now? No. There is one place on earth making these things and probably at a loss already. There is no where else to get this kind of thing.

Hobby Link Japan now does ship to the US. You have to chose DHL when you buy the thing and ship it. When it gets to US customs you will learn the extra taxes that need to be paid. There is no way to be sure what those taxes are exactly or how long the delay will be so…good luck!

In other words I’m not buying anything until there’s a Supreme Court decision.

A guy in Japan had an LD that I wanted, listed on Ebay. Listing stated seller handles all international fees. I did a buy it now on September 18th. LD was shipped September 25th. September 26th LD was with SpeedPAK! October 4th LD was Delivered by UniUni to my address in Florida...

I've been getting all my international packages delivered from Uniuni, it must be some service to bypass these fees???
