Disclord, how would you compare it to the LD-W1? I ask because I have one of those and I'm not overly in love with the video. It's great on SD CRT but not so great on my 1080i Sony CRT. The picture and noise reduction are the same - the W1 obviously has the advantage or playing 2 discs it also has the same honeycomb base as the S1 - its digital FX are more advanced than the S1 due to the W1's jog dial remote and it also lets you access field freeze on CAV discs for this improperly mastered films with incorrect 3/2 pulldown. The still frame is smoother looking than the S1 due to more advanced chips being available. The S1 has better audio. If you want beauty go with the S1 - if you want 4sided play and a better remote, so with the W1. In basic pic quality they look the same and are quite a bit softer than more modern players and the noise reduction adds some odd artifacts in low level areas of the picture. The CLD-909 was Pioneer's last player to have no noise reduction, the S1 was the first with the 1010 and W1 being the 2nd and 3rd - the 1010's isn't as bad, I think, due to its red laser. Strange they didn't use the red laser on the S 1 or W1 and the W1 really should be part of the Elite line due to its construction and performance for the time. Sorry I can't answer your question any better.

i just got my cable today, and i have to totally disagree with you about the picture quality. yes the still frame on CLV is not top quality, for CAV its nice but does give the jitter on discs with incorrect 3/2 but playback picture quality on my projector is some of the best i've ever seen. when i was playing Flash Gordon (1980) [41518]my wife walked through the living room and thought it was a DVD. it was that clear even better than the Panasonic LX-900 i do own one and have had it connected to the projector ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

OK just watched a little of Dirty Pair: Perfect TV (1985) [VPLY-70266] on my new LCD television, its a Panasonic 32 inch. can't have anything larger due to the size of my living room and also i have the projector for larger. WOW this LD-S1 playing on this TV looks amazing. i noticed that scanning through the Dirty Pair episode that it looked like a film image from a 16mm print!!!!!!!!!!!! this flat screen and LD player only using composite look AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! i do wish i still had the R7G to see how amazing it would have looked on this flat screen but i am very happy with the picture resolution of this player plugged straight into the set. just amazing. didn't think i would ever see film like images from LD again when changing from CRT to anything newer ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

That's pretty impressive since that set is mastered like crap. Its one of my best and worst LD boxes at the same time.

I wonder if there's an improvement. I have to get new cables for my setup though I am still waiting on the LDS2 i have not tried other cables, but i don't really know if ones for digital will help any, or hurt any. it should be as long as you have a good cable you will get a nice image. the cable i have to the projector is from wally world, its a 50ft and gives a great image. i did buy a cheaper quality, but not really price and it gave some horrible interference. the cable i have from the LD to the TV is actually a white audio cable, using the yellow i have for something else until i get an HDMI for that other device. TV only has 1 composite and 2 HDMI and antenna. and i never doubted you tasuke, but it did take me about 20 minutes to set it up for LD image and i used Video Essentials AND a bunch of other films etc that i have seen many times and know what its supposed to look like ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

seems to be a listing of a really nice LD-S1 on ebay from our good ole grasshopper. if you have been looking for a player I would jump on this, you can find them cheaper but the risk of damage or working is a factor. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

OK here are some pictures, very hard as my old camera won't take good pictures of moving image and the still images are not all that great on the LDS1 due to it being an older chipset inside. Conan the Barbarian (1981) [41018] these are as good as they will get, there is a little bleed on the text of the second picture, but this is not on the TV when playing. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:
