There's been quite a few, but it matters your taste. Ken Burns The Civil War is great. I recently watched Shogun, it was edited down to movie length but I still enjoyed it for what it was. I think the Republic serials are a lot of fun, although not television mini-series like Merlin, they are made to be watched in episodes and are perfect for the laser format.

Stephen King's The Stand is a good one.

I guess the extended edition box set of Gettysburg would count as it is longer than the theatrical cut (over 4 hours!) and aired on TV over 3 days. As far as I know, this cut is as yet unavailable on DVD/Blu-ray.

Oliver Stone's Wild Palms, it's sort of in the vein of Twin Peaks.

I can't tell you if it's good or not, but I know my females friends dig it, and I happened to get it for a few dollars:

Most of it was shot on PAL video, so a BD release would be rather unlikely. If the film inserts still exist, it might be worth it to make an up-scaled version using the PAL transform decoder - or at least a Doctor Who Restoration Team-style DVD re-release.
