I have not been able to verify this anywhere, but the discs made in other countries (e.g. the Japanese set of Star Trek), the language is all in Japanese right? Because on Memory Alpha it states that the English soundtrack "Is also available" on the Japanese releases and I'm not entirely sure how that is possible as there is no menu to chose from.

LDs usually have a stereo analog channel and a stereo digital channel. This is used for dual language movies quite a bit.

The Japanese rarely dub anything though, so usually what you get are Japanese subtitles in the picture. How annoying this is depends on the specific disc and your own personal annoyance threshold.

You'll have to research all of these things on a case by case basis.

Clearly a child of the digital age ;)

I can barely believe I have to explain this bit :shock: - If you check your DVD/BD player you'll find you don't have to necessarily select audio track/language via the menu - there's a button on the remote (usually labelled language or audio - how remarkably self explanatory!!) to do it directly without accessing or bringing up the menu at all.

Just because LD doesn't have a menu doesn't mean you can't select between the digital and analogue tracks from a button on the remote. Signofzeta explained the rest.

I mean I apreciate the answer, but you could have just explained it, haha. I only picked up the machine last week so I'm not really fluent in how everything works yet.

Edit: I also don't personally own a dvd or bluray player, grew up on and still watch VHS tapes :P

The Star Trek box sets have English on the digital tracks and the Japanese dub on the analogue. They have LD-G too so with an LD-G capable player I can listen to the Japanese dub and have English subtitles. It's about the most useful/amusing thing I've found for LD-G :clap:
