Glad you said it. Very often underrated imho. Following on from Voyager just showed up so much of that show as quite tired and ordinary. When it was cancelled at Season 4 and they let loose on some pent up storylines it was just so great. signofzeta wrote: I don’t like DS9 because it’s all about race wars and fighting and crap making it closer to Tolkien than Heinlein IMHO. It needed less NFL and more MIT. I get that. But the show was al about doing something different as there was the TNG overlap. Star Trek still needed conflict even if not from the main characters; so if from a whole different race from a different sector of the galaxy? The Dominion were the new Klingons? Have to say that of all the ST shows DS9 had the most fabulous group of regular character actors performing; Gul Dukat, Quark, Garak, Weyoun/Brunt, Grand Negus and many others I failed to mention; though Jeffrey Combs, Marc Alaimo and Andrew Robinson are some personal favourites. Yeah but you thought Undiscovered Country was better than the first 4 films so all this opinion above, is invalid.

What from Star Trek do you think enabled Gundam?? Well if there wasn't ST TOS then Star Wars would have had a hard time existing so maybe that was what Zeta meant?

I don't really see the connection with either. Gundam happened because Tomino wanted to do a realistic war series but all he got funded for was another giant robot anime so he decided to do both at once. For what it's worth, the colonies in the series are based on an actual concept of what a real space colony might look like. Now here's a fun thing to consider; in the second episode of Space Battleship Yamato, we're shown what was essentially a holodeck to demonstrate how the crew would engage in recreational activities on their long journey. While this was never really shown again in that series, an actual holodeck (though I don't recall it being called that then either) was first shown in an episode of Star Trek TAS a year earlier. Coincidence?

A young hero suddenly thrown into a conflict, a small band of heroes on a super ship. I dunno maybe Tomino was just inspired by Kurosawa, the same as Lucas, but Tomino had interesting timing putting Kurosawa's ideas in space as well. Quote: There is SO much more that makes it to next evolution of the ideas and ideals found in classic Trek. And these ideas and ideals are what exactly..?

I recommend watching Jodorowki’s Dune for how that team came up together for Dune but later used on Alien. Ridley Scott was hired after Jodorowski has been dropped off to direct Dune but later replaced by David Lynch. Scott took Giger, O Banon and others to work on Alien.

Japan release date of Star Wars Summer '78 and MS Gundam debuting a year later. Light swords, a skywalker-esque unlikely hero etc,,as above. In any case, as per my original point, MS Gundam is a lot more influenced by SW than by ST, that is clear.
