Well if you're gonna pick up TNG on DVD, I suggest the 20th Anniversary box set because it has an exclusive bonus disc.

I don't really understand it myself. Like I said, you can still watch TOS on blu with the original effects, and for TNG blu they pretty much just re-composited the opticals.

Although I just remembered, I think it was The Neutral Zone, the original version had the names of Doctor Who actors in an Okudagram as a joke, but they changed them for the remastered version. Granted, the original also included names like Kermit T Frog and Miss Piggy so maybe that was for the best...

What was this thread about again?

Rank Star Trek series best to worst..... that was it.

Was brought up for many years on the original '60s series, never off BBC TV for years & that it is the one for me even with the naff episodes.

Got a look at the blu-ray set recently & great to see the as originally broadcast episodes, not a great fan of the updated effects but perhaps that is just me.

Cheers

It clearly drives you *crazy* that off topic conversation is taking place. Even a topic that says "Only the original is good, I don't even like the remix." is perfectly fine in your opinion as long as it stays on topic.

I suggest that if you like the original topic so much than you stick to it and rate all or at least some of the other series. If you haven't see any of them then I think you probably haven't seen enough Trek to contribute to the topic, sorry.

Yeah but think that you were watching anime Star Trek?

I was only pointing out that Star Wars was more of an influence on Gundam than Star Trek was. Remember this whole derailment was because Zeta said Star Trek influenced Gundam a lot.

I haven't watched much other than TOS and personally hate the enhanced and couldn't watch it on netfix when I had NF.
All other Trek that I've seen was broadcast either when new or on Scifi channel or BBC America.
Never really got into the later series but did watch Enterprise and TNG is always played on BBCA when I had cable.

While I was never drawn towards DS9 or some other later stuff I'm always willing to give it another shot but
100% of the time my tastes don't change.

Not really. Though like I see your comparison points I also see Zeta's points about the general outlook towards humanity of both Gundam and ST.

@Rein-O: I got the old DVD box sets that I'd probably part with now if you want TNG...

You really have to resurrect from a few deaths and make it to later seasons to start to enjoy DS9. It gets really interesting and fun. And if you end up like the show, try Babylon 5 after (or before). They are similar but B5 is deep from the beginning. The boring beginning curve ends towards the end of the season 1 instead of several seasons later on DS9.

I recommend against the DVDs on TNG. Especially the first few seasons. They are direct ports from the composite masters that were used for LDs. They used sub par comb filters of the time to convert these to component DVD format. These is a ton of combing artifacts, very dull colors and overall worst than the LDs by a margin.

TNG Lds are 5/5 for both video and audio quality. If you insist on the original effects and the original audio track (Dolby Surround encoded PCM 2.0), LDs are the best way to view them.

Blu-rays are extremely faithful to original. Effects are extremely well done and blend perfectly. Color timing and enhancements are perfect. No artificial sharpness or noticeable dnr. Very fluid very analog like video.

I would say it’s a toss up between Blu-rays and LDs.

I watched TOS on Netflix some years ago with the new FX. I was surprised at how well they blended in. Of course Original is always Original but to a casual fan or even the hardcore the remix is something I’d recommend anyone try.

Doesn't drive me *crazy* at all, love the way some topics go - usually very entertaining.

Seen some of the others but not religiously, just given the number of viewings of the original series so often when quite young/growing up it is the one that sticks most in my mind.

Just mentioned the blu-ray as it was good to see some of them again, as the originals & the rather well done updates also - just prefer the old school ones.

Perhaps I have not seen enough Trek to contribute.

Didn't intend to irritate you in any way.

Cheers

Well on some things it seems to suck with us. We can't seem to get our s**t together at times. I really want to get a shirt that says Happy Treason Day you ungraftful Coloniest or something like that. If we had the representation we desired perhaps we would have stayed longer in the Empire. at least that way we would have a queen instead of some man over and over. It some times seem like an Oxymoron to live here at times. I love my family and those who fought so I will support them even though it seems like crap but I really shouldn't rant.

I wished I had some Kolas after seeing Nozzles when I was younger but alas they don't live here.

these days.

Even though I personally had nothing to do with it I want to thank you Forper.

Every place has its place to give, its not just the USA but we do rock the best, look at hulkster doing it.
Happy 4th and as Firehorse put it, I'll put it a different way, don't lose any fingers.

Still have to see that. I'm judging its on par with being a classic then from the start? Is it only one CBS thing or will Netflix have it?

Well a trailer is just that but I'm optimistic.

There are a couple of reveals that if you don't read/see elsewhere make it a lot of fun on first viewing.

I think I saw it will be on Amazon Prime too? But us Australians are apparently world champions at getting around such limitations.
