Post subject:  Need help with iScan VP-50 Pro

I have an iScan VP-50 Pro I have been trying to get up and running for a few hours now but no joy. Problem is getting a signal to pass through my AVR to the projector.

My test equipment,

Sansung VCR/DVR HDMI Out ---> iScan VP-50 Pro HDMI 1 In --> iScan VP-50 Pro HDMI Out --> Denon AVR-X6500H HDMI 2 In --> Denon AVR-X6500H HDMI Out --> Sony VPL-VW285ES Projector HDMI 1 In.

I reset the VP-50 Pro to factory settings and verified the Input is HDMI 1 and Output is HDMI. I have a Blue light that means it sees an incoming signal.

I was able to hook the VP-50 to a small tabletop flatscreen TV and selected 720P for format on the VP-50 and got the VP-50 on-screen menu. Took it back to the HT room hooked everything back up but still no signal to the projector.

My nest step tomorrow is to find a cheap DVD player in a thrift store and go back to the tabletop flatscreen TV + DVD player + VP-50 and see if I can get a DVD to play.

Anything I'm doing wrong in the setup? All my other equipment new and old works with my AVR.

Update

I hooked the VP-50 Pro directly to my Sony projector via the HDMI 2 port and have the VP-50 on screen menu. So next issue to figure out is why the Denon AVR will not pass the VP-50 Pro signal through the AVR to the projector.

Well, this for sure is an issue of the Denon AVR-X6500H not liking the VP-50 Pro for some reason.

I pulled an old NAD T751 AVR out of storage, ran to Walmart and bought a cheap $24 DVD player and hook all that and the VP-50 Pro up directly to the Sony projector and everything works as it should.

(throwing naive ideas)

Maybe some DHCP issue? Using HDMI Zone 2?
The VP-50 is up-scaling to analog or converting to digital?

The VP50 Pro is also known for bad solder joints: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=409041

Mine has also been on the fritz for a while, need to open it up and poke around with a multimeter and look for broken/cold solder. Don't really care about it much anymore since my Sony BD recorder does a better job of deinterlacing, particularly with anime.

The VP-50 seems to be working as it should because I can hook it up directly to the projector and get a picture, going to do the same with my 50" flat screen today.

As for the AVR-X6500H I have tried turning off and on every HDMI and video setting but no joy. Weird for sure

Update

VP-50 Pro is passing through my Denon AVR-X6500H now, the fix was using the HDMI CD7 Input that is a pass through. For whatever reason the Denon didn't like the VP-50 Pro when connected to HDMI Input 1 thru 6.

Another Update and another question.

Turns out the passing through my Denon AVR-X6500H issue was operator error, I didn't have the VP-50 output set to HDMI.

Now that I have the VP-50 up and running with my Pioneer CLD-R7G the next issue or question is the picture size on my 120" screen. If I play the Pioneer CLD-R7G without the VP-50 the picture (letterbox / widescreen) fills my screen on the right and left side. If I play the Pioneer CLD-R7G with the VP-50 the picture size is reduced and I have borders on the right and left side.

I have tried all the VP-50 settings but none seem to allow the picture to fill the screen on the right and left side.
