Okay, I don't think anyone here understands what I'm asking: You all have multiple LD players and one TV, correct? I have one LD player and multiple TV's connected to a home HDMI network. All TV's aspect ratio's are set to "full" (16X9). I have a DVD player, a Sony UBP-X1100ES. When I play a disc with 4:3 Programming it outputs a 4:3 image with black bars on both sides in 1080p. Two other Sony DVD players in the past, they would output a 16X9 image. I would have to go to every TV and change the aspect ratio's to "normal" (4:3). What I'm looking for is a device that will convert the S-Video output from my LD player to HDMI. BUT, add black bars on both sides of the 4:3 image, like my DVD player. And then I can finally stop running around, having to change the aspect ratio on every TV. Makes sense, doesn't it? Everything thrown at a HDMI converter is, 4:3... |

You will always need to adjust your TV unless you have something like a video 1 and video 2 and run the LD to one of them, then you shouldn't have to change your aspect ratio. My TV has the LD going to one of the AV and I set that to 4.3 the other video setting is for my DVD and I have that as whatever its set at, something like an automatic for aspect ratio. Pillar boxing isn’t ideal unless you plan to watch all your LDs in 4:3. You want the video stretched to 16:9 covering all useable area. Then your TV can correctly squeeze the image and add pillar boxes for full screen LDs or zoom in for letterboxed LDs. |

I'd have no problems if I only had One TV... Just making sure you realize any letterboxed LD will be letterboxed inside a pillar boxed 4:3 frame, displayed on a 16:9 ratio screen, meaning you will have black bars on all 4 sides of your screen. Also keep in mind, the vast majority of the LDs are letterboxed. |

If a movie was shown in the Cinema in 1:85.1, I will look for the "Open Matte" LD. Stuff like, Beetlejuice/Oscar/Double Trouble/Matinee/King of Comedy/The Long, Long Trailer/etc. Widescreen movies like Forbidden Planet and Star Trek/Star Wars, I'll get the DVD/Blu-Ray... |
