I Had this Model around the Late-2000's, and it Gave Out on me somewhere in the early-2010's.

I had felt Burnt by the whole deal at the time... and pivoted to a different DVDP
rather than seeking a direct replacement DV-09.

Ten to 15 Years onward... i Welcome the Almighty (Amongst DVDPs) DV-09 back into my life Once Again;

So did you fix your old one or buy a new one???
These electronics are going to need caps, if your last one died it was probably from that or laser, this will be very short lived, even if not used.
I'm really shocked at how long these electronics have been lasting without cap replacement, but then again these are all hobby pieces
and we don't run them twice a week or even once a day like they would have been before internet streaming.

I'm kind of curious too if you're saying you resurrected your old machine or just acquired another one.

In any case, I think a lot of early generation DVD players had burned out lasers since manufacturers still didn't quite know how to build them for reliability yet.

My Sony DVD-S7700 has a bad DVD laser (the CD one works fine still) and I know a lot of first generation Panasonic units did burn out just after their warranty.

My Original Player developed a PSU issue after a couple of years of owning it, about 15/20-odd years ago.

A Fellow on some Forum (i Forget which) Handheld me through Localizing and Repairing the Fault,
and the unit was briefly Functional once more before Conking out on me again.

Feeling Burned and Defeated; i Migrated to a 2000 PIONEER DV-37 and, Eventually, a 2001 DV-38A,
Packing the DV-09 away with a view towards getting it Repaired Proper someday.

That Day Never Came. no Service Shops within any reasonable driving distance from me...
i Ended Up deciding to Cannibalize the 09 for the Cosmetic Parts and such,
- as well as Retaining the Remote, Paperwork and original PIONEER Shipping Box - and Tossed the faulty Main Chassis.
This was all going on during an especially Arduous Massive Downsizing and Residential Move.

I've been Regretting what i was Forced to Do at that time... so i just Recently Gave in to finding myself another Functional DV-09 in Like New Condition...
effectively bringing the player back to me as if my late-2000's original had never Faltered to Begin With...

Ugh, I hate that you had to do that but sometimes we need to do what we do.

I usually sell off things like this for someone else to hopefully repair.

These types of electronics have only repair places for us to ship to, or other hobbyist who can repair and we can ship off to if its beyond our abilities.

I ended up going with DVD-79Avi instead of a DV-09 because of the lack of progressive scan output on the DV-09. I'd still like to pick up DV-09 eventually but people know what they have now and asking $300+ for a DVD player is bonkers. But hell, it does look sexy beside the earlier Pioneer Elite branded equipment you have. Plus the way loading mechanism works is a thing of beauty. Reminds me of my LD-S2 in how it loads.

How quiet is the drive on something like this? I have an later Elite (in name only for sure…) CD/DVD player that is phenomenal in every aspect other than its obviously cheap build quality and the drive being constantly audible in my listening room. I don’t have cabinets in this area and I normally play records on a direct drive TT and an amp with no fans so I hear zero equipment noise but when I listen to CDs I have to ignore that tick tick tick sound of a Discman. It’s not loud, but definitely audible.

Seems Pretty Quiet to me. Perhaps some of your CDs are slightly Eccentric? and your Player's Drive is Less Tolerant of such Discs?

or perhaps something is slightly off on your Player's Drive Mecha itself?

There’s nothing wrong with it. All CD players make noise…but I’m assuming that if you put it in a big enough box one wouldn’t be able to hear it anymore.

Wasn't the DV-09 from an older MPEG decoder generation that still had the chroma bug (same as the DVL-909)?

https://hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_2/dvd-benchmark-special-report-chroma-bug-4-2001-list.html

Maybe it's not as pronounced on a smaller display?

My Harman Kardon DVD25 still works perfect, knock on wood.
I bought it new in early 2000.
I played the cra@p out of it and my H/K still kicks ar$e like they say in UK.
Before that I owned a high end premium priced Arcam dvd, this player had a cra@ppy laserblock which constantly broke down on me during warranty time.
Took it back and bought the much cheaper H/K dvd never looked back or having any playback issues.

H/K was once known for HQ equipment, today it's Samsung who owns the brand. :wtf:

You think these will continue as premium brands under the roof of Samsung?

Well I recently had to send my older Arcam AVR 600 back for service and the Arcam site in Cambridge UK has now become known as Harmon Luxury Audio Group, the other brands this encompases are JBL, Lexicon, Revel, Mark Levinson so at least for now it does seem that they want keep these as separate premium brands although I’ve recently noticed that have added ‘A Samsung Company’ in smaller print to the logo. It does make you wonder though if ultimately they will drop the Harmon brand completely?

I have no problems who owns the company as long as the R/D teams for each premium brand are free to still manufacture high-end products without involvement from Samsung board.

Yes, totally agree. Though I wonder now if each of these of these former “Luxury” brands do actually retain their own independent R&D teams, being as the Arcam AVR 30/31, Lexicon RV9 & JBL SDR-35 AV receivers are all pretty much the same unit save for the different logo’s and facia styling?
