I didn't where else to put this.

I want to add a vcr to my LD upscaling but my upscaler only has one input. So I will need a selector.

I have no idea if passive units would function as well as those with power sources. Are there any real benefits to a powered selector? Better signal getting through the box or something?

Passive, IMO, is better because there are no bandwidth issues - I use Radio Shack passive stereo tape deck switchers to switch 3 component signals to one component input and have no problems with signal, noise or resolution loss. I also have a passive JVC switcher and its video bandwidth is rated at more than 20MHz and the audio 100kHz. As a test I've sent progressive component 480p video through its audio section and there was no degradation.

Cool, thanks disclord. I have a JVC on my main setup. We might even be talking about the same one, the JX-S111. I've been very happy with it for anything component, but it's really the only one I've ever owned or tried.

Well, I suppose I'll grab another. They are certainly affordable and plentiful!
