Sorry to dig this old post up but I did a lot of reading on this. I am looking for a DVD recorder that has a 3d comb filter but also has HDMI out.

Looking at the list I see the DMR-ES25 but looks like its only a 2D

C1AB00000791:
DMR-E20 (3 in)
DMR-E30 (3 in)
DMR-HS2 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-T3030 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-T3040 (HDD, 3 in)

C1AB00001979:
DMR-E65 (3 in)
DMR-E75 (VCR, 2 in)
DMR-E85 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-E95 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-E500 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-EH50 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-EH55 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-EH60 (HDD, 3 in)
DMR-ES10 (3 in)
DMR-ES15 (2 in)
DMR-ES20 (2 in)
DMR-ES25 (2 in)
DMR-EZ17 (2 in)
DMR-EZ27 (2 in)
DMR-T6070 (HDD, 3 in)

I also found a Samsung DVD-VR357 only to find that its a 2D

It's 3D. The "2 in" refers to the number of inputs.

Yeah, the Panasonic DMR-ES25 is definitely a 3D comb filter. Not the greatest 3D comb filter, but it definitely doesn't behave like a 2D filter.

In my opinion the best that I've encountered is in the Toshiba DV-R600 DVD/VCR combo.

Followed by the Panasonic DMR-ES25.

How about the Sony RDR-GX330? Anyone know how the comb filter is on this?

thanks

Been experimenting with my Toshiba DVD Recorder. Also had 3D DNR and Mosquito NR turned on.

CLD-D703 (C) > Toshiba RD-XS34 (C>Y/C) > ATI TV Wonder HD 600 USB (Y/C)

CLD-D703 (C) > ATI TV Wonder HD 600 USB (C)

Processed in AVISynth using BitFrost and 2 calls of LRemoveDust (17,2). Check out the detail on the 300 and 400 boxes. Cleaning the raw signal doesn't preserve details as the hardware filters do.

Mosquito NR is tuned towards MPEG artifacts, it shouldn't be used on LD. The TV wonder HD is definitely a 2D comb filter... and it looks like it's dropping color bandwidth quite a bit. Other than that the Toshiba->ATI chain looks pretty good.

Post subject:  Re: DVD Recorders with 3D Comb Filters

I have a Sony RDR-VXD655 that I've had for nine years so far and it still works fine (aside from the occasional disc ejecting that freezes). It's the only DVD-Recorder I've ever owned. I tested out recording an LD for the first time (Star Trek VI) and the copy looks very good. I assume this recorder has a 3D comb filter? I tried looking up info but don't see it referenced in specs. I'm assuming it does as it was released in 2007 and to my knowledge one of the last DVD Recorder/VCR combos. A clarification is always reassuring. :)

Good to know. Will probably leave it off in the future. Also just won an auction for a Extron YCS-100. Can't wait to try it out on my set up.

Yes, this is the fatal flaw of the ATI 600 USB for LD capture.

Prepare to be disappointed, if your benchmark is S&W. http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/video-r ... #post48712

Saw that. S&W isn't my benchmark, but its a good stick for measurements.

The YCS-100 does pretty awful on the S&W test, but pretty good on real world material. You just gotta bump up the color a bit.

One thing that I and a member on the FB group noticed though is that it does not seem to play nice with Panasonic laserdisc players for some reason. Works great with my various Pioneer players.

Got my YCS 100 in the mail yesterday. Not really liking it. Seems to wash the colors out. Even using something like AutoAdjust in AVIsynth doesn't seem to fix the issue. Going straight into my RD-XS34 seems to be move vibrant than putting the YCS in between my 703 and XS34.

Perfect case of the bandwagon mentality not working :)

Everyone is on the Extron kick based on a couple of cell phone screen shots but it's nothing special at all and it has horrible color compared to a good 3d comb.

True, nothing beats having it hooked up to your own stuff. I have had an Extron scaler. They have a million settings and can be Web controlled but my Faroudja NRS has much better color and is more analog looking.

Post subject:  Re: DVD Recorders with 3D Comb Filters

Yes I've tried everything and it's really very simple. If you are unable or unwilling to get a Lumagen 2144/24 then get a Faroudja NRS, no reason to muck about with DVD, Extron, or anything else.

Post subject:  Re: DVD Recorders with 3D Comb Filters

The Extron is a good comb filter for $20 when you don't want to buy a more expensive video processor, or have a processor with a weak built in comb filter like most DVDO products. The NRS is in a totally different class. Out of the stuff currently laying around the living room:

DVDO VP 50 < Panasonic DMR-ES25 < Panasonic LX-900 built in svideo < Extron YCS < Faroudja DVP-1000

Now if I could just combine the Faroudja comb filter with the DVDO deinterlacing and aspect ratio options I'd have a perfect processor.

Interesting that you put the LX-900's built-in S-video over the DMR-ES25's comb filter. The latter is loved around here.

I have an LX-600, which is basically the same as the LX-900 without the superior MASH DAC and Noise reduction features. It's currently hooked up via composite to a Toshiba D-RW2SU outputting 480i component to a Samsung HLS series DLP. Would you recommend S-video connected to the TV (or DVD recorder)?

The Toshiba has fantastic color resolution for (supposedly) a 2D filter, better than that of my TV's 3D filter.

Post subject:  Re: DVD Recorders with 3D Comb Filters

Do the Panasonic DVD Recorders shut off after a set amount of time? I'm having that issue with my Toshiba. I tried to use it to comb some VHS recordings I was capping but it shut off around 2 hours in (it was an 8 hour tape ). Thinking about getting one if they allow me to keep it on for a while.

Edit: The DMR-E20 does have the option to keep on indefinitely or in 2 hour intervals up to 6. Checked it on the manual.

Edit 2: The first manual I checked was the UK version. the US version on Panny's FTP (copyright 2001) doesn't have these options listed.
