I notice there is a category for LD players, and AC3 decoders, but not for external TBC & Comb filters. I am not talking about general scalers (although possibly it could include that), but actual CVBS to Component (or SDI/RGB/etc.).

The flood on the used market of NTSC and PAL broadcast quality CVBS decoders is making it substantially cheap to get a very good quality setup.

Because majority of those don't work well for Laserdiscs.

How do you figure? It is almost exactly what they are designed to do? Most broadcast equipment was already component (betacam, d1, d2, etc.). These comb filters were designed specifically to convert CVBS (or composite signals, which a laserdisc is) to component video (analog or SDI).

Check out: http://notonbluray.com/blog/comb-tb-tests/ for a comparison. by my eyes, the ~$100-$200 DPS-575 blows away any laserdisc player except the HLD-X9. I recently got a golden gate decoder and it made a huge improvement.

p.s. in this thread Which units are helpful/useful to improve analog pq ?

The "Snell & Wilcox" TBS-185 is mentioned, which is one of the types of devices I am talking about.

EDIT: It should be noted that these pictures were taken with my Canon DSLR mounted on a tripod in my theater room, lights off. The MDD2200 is running SDI to a BlackMagic design SDI to HDMI converter, into my Panasonic LCD PJ. Because of the darkness in the room, the DSLR shutter is open for a while, which makes the "Tartan Bars" and "Chroma Frequency Response" dot crawl appear better than it actually is. The dot crawl is blurred a bit by the shutter speed. There is mild dot crawl perceptible in reality. However, the other portions of the test are as they appear.

Hi there.
I'm looking for people that own and use the TBS185 in their system.
I do and I experience interesting behavior of Input C over A or B.
C would appear to be far superior, as expected given the Golden Gate promise. But it is very picky with its Signals. I have a freshly serviced AG-7350 and can't get anything that even remotely resembles stable horizontal sync. Same with my CLD-925. My JVC DR-10000 also produces a shaky Signal until I engage its TBC. But engaging the TBC circuit activates more extra Signal processing that I want in a Playback device. So, I'd rather use the AG-7350 for all my dubbing.
C Input also won't accept the PAL60 Signal that the DR-10000 makes from NTSC tapes. A and B do.
Any ideas?
Cheers, R
