Hi everyone:
This is my first post. I have a 73 inch Mitsubishi DLP that is still producing excellent 1080P images. I recently picked up a Denon LD player (with AC-3rf out) and have been spending a lot of money buying my favorite movies from Sellers on this site. I can't believe how much I have fallen for these big discs. Any way, I currently run my Denon through a Pioneer PVR-9000 Dvd recorder into the DLP's component inputs which improved my picture (no HDMI on the Pioneer). I know CRT's are the preferred tv type for this technology but is there anything out there I can add to my system to further improve my pic? I was hoping not to spend more than $100-200 on either a video upscaler or any other equipment recommended to me on this forum. I appreciate any info provided in advance.

Thanks
George

Before you do that be sure you’ve calibrated for LD, preferably with Video Essentials. You want the brightness pretty dang low, that’s the main thing, and the sharpness at zero. Turn off all the lights you can and shut the curtains. Your TV probably has a lot more brightness than stuff from the LD era had but if you are watching LD then you can’t use it all so don’t try to.

I don’t much know about the other options on that display but “turn everything off” the rule of thumb. If the player has both composite and s-video be sure to try both out. Usually the composite is better.

When calibrating for brightness VE will tell you to go as high as you can until you see bloom, ignore that. I don’t think DLPs bloom at all. Later CRTs are immune to it too but the image will still be destroyed if you go to high even though there is no bloom.

Isn't that contrast? Brightness you set with the pluge pattern. For contrast there is a gray at bottom to white at top pattern that you want to make sure the top two bars aren't blended together.

Yeah, same basic idea.
