I can get a DVDO Edge Green Scaler for $180. I've never used one, but I've watch videos on YouTube about them. The guy I'm getting from had it along with some other higher end gear.
I have LD(of course) and a bunch of retro gaming gear. Will it be helpful on that also?
I have a 4k 65" that I'm going to using it on.
That for any information.

It's pretty good actually. Anything better cost substantially more. I don't know if there is any performance to be gained from video processors anymore. Most modern TVs do excellent de-interlacing and scaling. A video processor will give you a little bit more control over your video and flexibility such as better aspect ratio management, masking, image shifting and add more inputs. I guess it depends on your budget and how critical you are.

I'd agree with that. I basically use my Duo as a big input device + more fine controls for tuning. Don't really scale much with it anymore.

One problem you may face with the DVDO Edge is that compatibility issues with modern displays tend to be a problem. It seems to be due to ARC. When the TV tries to transmit data back through HDMI, the voltage can really mess things up. Menus becomes unreadable, remote control unresponsive and finally it just shuts off with no way to power it on again unless you unplug the HDMI cables and power chord (to set it back in again of course). Using an active HDMI splitter could possibly fix this issue.

Is this just an Edge issue or any DVDO? Edge is actually the only DVDO unit I've got rid of because it couldn't do the job I wanted it to with an old plasma display.

I'm only familiar with it on the Edge. Not sure about the other models. In my case, the DVDO Edge was nearly impossible to get to work with my old OLED. The only way that made it sort of function was to boot it when connected to a PC monitor and then swapping HDMI cables. This prevented the back channel from outputting any voltage and sorted things out. Otherwise I was pretty much screwed.

I see. Overall I certainly felt the Edge was lacking feature-wise compared to many of their other offerings.

I really love the Edge. It's my second scaler after the lumagen. The result is better in my opinon than a VP50 for movie sources, thanks to a light comb filter, rendering image soft but not blur.
By the way, this topics shouldn't be in an other category ? As we are discussing here about progress of the hardware category of the site.
edit : thank you for the moving ^^
