Black magic looks cool but 195 for that, gen lock and computer dedicated to do this I may just find the script translated in English and read it
once or twice before I watch the film.

OR pickup the film or series on DVD along with LD and run that with subs separately below with a second TV which may be cheaper???

I'm only interested myself for stuff that didn't make it to the U.S. or the release is practically unavailable.

I'm getting older and I don't want to watch these shows I've always idolised but mostly never finished half-assed.

I probably want to watch 100 shows, some long running, before I die, so I can probably only watch each one time. I want to see them the same way anime fans in Japan saw them in the '80s and '90s, that's the purest way. With LD you know you're getting the intact openings and endings, correct music and everything else. The best way.

So if something is easily available on DVD or BD I don't care, I don't want to risk something has been changed that I have to compromise with. I just want to watch the shows the best way.

Agree to most of the stuff, like some of the rest but don't have the nostalgia for it as much.

I do have some obscure anime and highly doubt I can even find the sub files for them.
One day I'll contact you about this forper.

On another note, it won't really spoil it as I've watched these anime's at least 3 times so I have a very light grip on the story already
so reading something in full before watching it a fourth time won't spoil anything.

Again would love to do this if its a cheap situation, I think I have seen or thought I have seen genlock's on ebay for under 50 bucks and could see
doing something in the 50-100 range since I do have the computer sitting but it will all depend over the next year and finding gear to do this
along with my other life hobbies

Got my CS450 today. It powers up with a PSU I found, I can get LD video through it but Sub Station Alpha subs from my Windows 7 PC won't overlay. I've got PC to PC In via serial cable, LDP to composite in and composite out to the DVDO/TV.

Any hints on settings or connections please? The manual doesn't give any info on this particular application of the device. Thank you

Okay it kicked into gear suddenly and works now! Awesome!!

Hopefully going to watch a ton of anime with this thing! Starting
with the boxsets I already have had for years, then MORE hahahahahaha

Only thing is there seems to be slight flicker in the picture when the overlay
is on. From going through DVDO (and trying to fix it with the DVDO settings) , direct to TV, trying SVideo vs composite it seems to an internal issue with the CS450. Any suggested tweaks that could fix this? Thank you.

This is amazing, the best thing I ever bought. Look forward to sharing sub files with Rein-O and others in future. My subs for Orguss were just .srt I downloaded from a fan page converted to .ssa using the online tool here: https://toolslick.com/conversion/subtitle/srt-to-ssa

WOW Great to hear, I know that others have done this too but some wouldn't post here.

Look forward to getting some sub files from you for this, hopefully the new year will get my act in gear to do more hobby stuff
and not just what I've been doing.

Did you get it working Rein-o? It's a lot cheaper than the 450 but it does not mention doing genlock overlay.

Also wondering about this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultech-ITV-Inj ... SwvBpd94uB

I don't want to end up spending $70-100 on units for them to not be able to do what I want here.

Ask the seller? He claims it's 100% working order so should know it's capabilities.
If you get it I'd think about replacing the floppy drive with an emu unit.

Not yet, got it and a remote for I think 38 total so not a bad fault if it won't work.

Need to get my other PC setup and then SSA reader or whatever I need then I'll try it out.
Probably over the next month or so, will keep you posted.

There is an outside chance I might be able to do it with a piece of gear I already have.

This is in a manual for it that I found online

NOTE:Genlock is enabled via the front panel (in the Setup Mode). There are three Genlock modes: Master, Slave, and Disabled. In Master mode, the IA-100 will drive a sync signal out to the COMP2 connector located on the back of the unit. This sync would be "daisy chained" to a slave unit. In Slave mode the IA-100 will receive an external sync on the COMP2 connector and drive a buffered version of that signal on the COMP2 connector. When Genlock is disabled, COMP1 and COMP2 connectors become standard definition composite TV inputs

Managed to get a New Old Stock TVOne CS-450 for $100 shipped. Should have offered less I guess, but I'm happy with it.

? Why, that's a great price in the market far as I can tell. I paid twice as much for one with no remote or PSU, it was the cheapest option with deadstock ones going for US$300-$400, you got a good deal.

Glad to see a revived interest in genlocks in the forum because of this thread. It really isn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be and makes all those Japanese LDs fully enjoyable. Not just anime but I've been rewatching a lot of Japanese live action films I have that I used to watch raw and not fully comprehend. Man I wish I bought a genlock sooner.

What's the best method to share .ssa collections without paying? Google docs with zip files?

You me and Reino should do something like that to maximise our genlock utility.

Well they accepted right away and I'm cheap so it makes me think I could have got it for less. But yeah if it works I'm happy with it.

I need to dig in to anidb today and see what I can find. First thing I want to get a subtitle file for is Gunbuster.

I'll happily share anything I can find that is wanted.

Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam and if it exists, Future War 19XX are the top of my want lists at the moment.

Thanks!

That Gunbuster set is really nice, I think you will be quite happy with it. I actually watched it without subtitles when I got it.
