Hi. I have read this thread with intrigue and am interested in procuring a 2144. I reached out to CurtPalme.com and they were very responsive, but basically told me they have no options for getting a 2144. Does anyone here have a lead on a new or used unit? I know that Substance and Admin (Julien) mentioned that they had direct contact to Lumagen (Jim). Any chance one of you can help me with getting info on a 2144? I am trying to build a setup with an HLD-X0 and really need the 2144 to make it right. Thank you in advance for any help.

'Right' is of course a somewhat subjective concept in this situation. Perhaps there are other options like the C2 if you can't get your hands on a 2144? Either way sorry but mine are most definitely not for sale!!

I can get you in contact with Jim. They take trade ins towards their new 4K models time to time. They refurbish these trade ins and offer for sale but typically not listed anywhere. I also use a HLD-X0 with my 2144 and haven't seen better picture from LD on any other setup.

Like audioboyz mentions, your "only" other option is CII if you can find any. CII can be a tad sharper in the expense of combing artifacts. Also it would be solely for LDs as the rest of the hardware is pretty antiquated for anything newer.

Sent; thank you! I did see some of the screen caps from others using the CII and also the DVDO edge 101. They look really good, but as others have stated it's hard to gauge how these items work over the internet vs in your own setup. To Substance's point, I need the upscaler for other purposes like VHS and DVD, so 2144 still seems like the best bet.

I have a unit that I might sell if the price is right.

Thanks for the replies, all. I was able to find a 2144 and I should have it on Friday. I'm still working on the HLD-X0 but am optimistic.

Probably a silly question but... would there be a way to "snapshot" whatever is the video buffer at that moment?

Maybe generating a local file that can be retrieved over USB?

It would be some much easier to compare various players/modes/filters/etc.

Found another issue with 11 and 12.

I put HLD-X9 straight to #12 and HLD-X9 via LG-1 to #11.

When I copied MEM A-D 12 to MEM A-D 11, only video settings for A and B were copied. not C and D.
Audio settings were not copied at all.

Anyone doing a chain like LD -> ISCAN DUO -> Lumagen 44xx ?

This would allow for 4K input still, but obviously loose all the analog processing and would have to fall back to the iscan and input that to the lumagen.

I'm quite sure substance does use LD -> Lumagen (SD to 4K) -> Lumagen Pro (4k management, color space, etc.) -> display.

Iscan Duo has the same ADV7800 for the analog section as the 2144. DVDO products are bit rough on analog video when scaling. Lumagen products on the other hand excels in scaling. Lumagen 44xx is not well optimized for anything below 1080p. Very few customers use sub-2K source nowadays so it is unlikely they will improve on this in the future. The best of both worlds setup is a 2144 for up to 1080p and a 44xx for the rest. You can try Iscan duo at 480p instead of a 2144 and Radiance 44xx to upscale all the way to 4K. This should come very close.

Cascaded scaling provides the best image. In Iscan Duo’s case, I don’t recommend any scaling in the DVDO.

Thanks for the info, currently just using the ISCAN to get the signal into the digital domain and letting the JVC projector scale. Trying to decide on dropping the coin on the latest generation of lumagen. Cost is not for the faint of heart.

Lumagen Radiance Pro is almost a necessity for 4K projector setups. Radiance Pro excels in HDR to SDR conversion (Dynamic Tone-Mapping) with its frame by frame and multi-zone per frame analyzing algorithm. This is the main benefit of 4xxx units. Yes it also does the best in class upscaling, aspect ratio management, color management and other enhancements but none of those warrant the very steep asking price more than the dynamic tone mapping (DTM).

If I was on limited budget, I would get the 4xxxx and look for cheaper alternatives for the SD processing. The resale for both 2144 and Duo are great. You can try and let go any one of them with minimal to no loss. Start with Duo and see how you like it.
