The newer scalers from Lumagen and Kramer has buildt in fan.
Are these fans sensitive for failiure and the scaler will eventually fry?

Do fans suck in dust and from time to time need to be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner?

Are these fans loud you can hear them spin when it's dead silence?

No problems with my 2144 so far bought new around 4 years ago, never thought to check if cleaning is required so can’t really advise on that question. Lastly, you can hear the fan on its lowest speed (my seating area is around 4m distance from the equipment tables) but tbh I don’t find it intrusive at all and when the Sony VW500 projector is fired up its fans (which aren’t particularly noisy) totally obscure the Lumagens. You can of course switch off the fan in the onscreen menu if you should wish, although this is perhaps not recommended for lengthy periods especially in a warmer environment?

@ laserfanhld-gb

Thanks for the info.

My XS-3D doesn't have a fan, wonder why Lumagen put a cooling fan inside later moodels?
Is the fan for the amplifier to keep it cool?

My laptop from 2009 developed a noise fan issue, it's very loud and humming from time to time sounds like the fan-bearing will stop working in the near future?
I'm worried if the newer scalers from Lumagen and Kramer will suffer a slow death from future fan-bearing issue?

All my Lumagens have their fan speed manually set to 10/10. This keeps the chipsets at around 50C versus 65C on auto. These chipsets are safe up to 92C but lower temps theoretically will increase longevity. At the highest fan speed they are audible if exposed. Mine are rack mounted, I can’t hear them.

Setting fan speed manually on max fan speed 10/10 keeps temps to around 50C.
If you put settings on auto fan temp raises to 65C?

In the instructions manual is there recommended for how low to set the fan speed for increased longevity not to put stress on fan-bearing?
Maybe keep fan speed lower than 5 out of 10 is that safe and OK?

Fan isn't servicable if you open the lid and put some oil on the bearing to keep it lubed?

Why do you care about the $5 fan while I tell you setting the fan speed high will increase the longevity of the $3,000 chipset which is out of production now? But yes, you can easily replace the fan. It is nothing special. Just off the shelf Sunon or alike. Nevertheless, mine are running without issue after over 10 years.

This was my mainly my concern, my laptop from 2009 developed a noise fan issue, it's very loud and humming from time to time sounds like the fan-bearing will break one day.
If cooling fans are available as spare parts then there is nothing to worry about.

How often do you clean your laptop's fan to remove the dust accumulating inside?

I have done this once since it started humming maybe some two years ago?
There was plenty of cr@p accumulated on cooling fan blades.
There's no access to lube the bearing it's in a capsule.

I bought an external pad with integrated cooling fans, then I removed the bottom cover on my laptop and place computer on top of the cooling pad.
The noise from laptop cooling fans do appear randomly and is very annoying.
The reason why my bearing finally seized it was because cooling fan speed was set to maximum till 2020 then bearing got worn out.

This is what worries me if I buy a used Kramer or find a Lumagen 2124/2144 and the fan-bearing could be seized hence my Q?
