I was wondering if anybody has any experience with the Lumagen Radiance XD? Would this be a worthwhile upgrade to use with a HLD-X9?

Don’t know what others think but…. composite out from X9 to XD probably not as the comb filter fitted to this Lumagen is likely inferior to the Pioneers 3D (albeit earlier gen) chip. Going via s-video might be worth it purely for the XDs deinterlacing capabilities, but probably best way would likely be putting something with a more capable comb filter between the X9 & XD and then using the LD players composite output?

Doesn't sound like it would be a significant improvement vs a direct connection.

The Radiance XD is everything of the Radiance 2144 minus 4K upscaling, 17x17x17 CMS and the good 3D comb filter. It has an earlier generation Analog Devices 2D adaptive comb filter, 5x5x5 CMS and up to 2K upscaling.

CMS used to make sense. Probes were never entirely cheap but the calibration software got out of hand lately. Calman no longer offers reasonably priced enthusiast version but the very expensive Pro versions.

Unless you want to buy one for the sake of science to experiment with it, there is probably not much you can gain, especially if you have a less than 5 year old display.
