Hello LDDB Friends

I am in the process of resurrecting a lovely LD-X1 imported from Japan. We have managed to address the usual loading belt issues and regreased etc. but have discovered basically that the Laser pickup is shot (there is a big crack at the bottom of it). Suspect someone has tried to play a damaged disc and it has gone badly...

Realize this is a (very) long shot but does anyone know if there is a lead on a replacement LD-X1 laser pickup unit? Would be a shame to let this player die as it is in spectacular "new" external condition.
FYI I have also emailed Kurtis Bahr (who is the guru on these players) (and put an APB out on the LD Forever group on Facebook). You never know... If there is someone in Japan who could query Pioneer over there that would also be fantastic...

Waiting in hope and anticipation...

Pioneer shut down the LD servicing service back in 2020 and destroyed all remaining inventory...

=> Pioneer Japan LD Player Servicing ending 2020/09/30

Thanks Julien for responding so promptly- you’d think that someone enterprising would take up the aftermarket notwithstanding Pioneer’s act of heinous vandalism - I know it is a relatively small user base but still much more significant than any of the manufacturers could have anticipated…

I’m not giving up on this - even if I have to cannibalise a parts player - mine will LIVE AGAIN

I think even in early 2000 this was the case with this player, parts were not easy to find on S2s.

Find someone who has a parts player or get another one working and save this for parts.

This is how I remember as well. S2/X1/X0 parts were never really available for the two decades. Look for a donor player. It may not turn up immediately but I am sure it will eventually.

parts LD pickup assembly for an LD-X1 now secured (seller assures me it is fully functional - it had better be at the eye watering price extracted for it  ) and will be winging its way across to the UK from Asia. Watch this space...
