Hey all,

Just got an LD-700 in. It works, with some help. The tray won't fully raise to eject the disc without me pulling on it. I looked in the Service Manual, but found a strange part number for the replacement belt - VEB-071. Instrumental Parts is one of the few results and they don't have it in stock.

I found a couple belts that were close in Part Number, but not an exact match. Does anyone have insight to what type of belt I need?
VEB058 SC B3.8
VEB060 SCX2.9

Marvac has both of these belts in stock and I'm fine to try belts that look close, but don't want to throw money away either.

Any help is appreciated!

It should be noted that quite a few of the early Pioneer players with trays seem to have used a system where the tray simply pops out and does not fully extend by itself: https://youtu.be/pn_Q1XiBjw0?t=49

(Apologies for the weird video, but this was the best I could find)

Sorry I only watched the video without audio, I've never seen any LD players with trays like that, or CD players.
I don't believe this was a common issue and needs a new belt so it can open and close properly.

Please someone who actually owns one of these players correct me if I'm wrong but I've had 1st CD players from Sony and Pioneer and
all work the same, tray comes out mechanically not with help from pulling on it.

Earliest LD players I've personally owned were CLD-3070 and CLD-1010 and those were the same as newer player.

That's exactly the way a CLD-900 works. Tray pops open, and then you pull it all the way out.
To play a disc, you push the tray in.

I had a Sony LDP-1550 worked the same way.

Thx, I just want people to make sure they aren't jacking up their players to have more in the trash dumps than needed.

You guys are correct, I almost liken it to a cd/dvd drive on a laptop where it would eject about halfway, load a disc, then push in to close.

That isn't really my concern here, though. There is a belt that drives gears to raise and lower the tray assembly before popping the tray. This is where I have to help pull it up since the belt is still work. I got to the belt location last night, but I can't easily slip it out of there for replacement.

I'll get some photos posted of what the area looks like and a pic of the belt once it's out.

Hi, did you find a working belt in the end?

I've just got mine out of my player (actually an LD-V6100 but I think it's an identical mechanism), with difficulty!

I measure it (not with any accurate tools, just a plastic ruler!) as:

Square, 2mm (0.0787402 in)
Inside Circumference 136mm (5.35433 in)
Diameter - 43.29mm (1.7043 in)

Does this chime with what you found? What size of belt did you buy, and was it successful?

Thanks :)

I bought a 2mm, 43mm diameter belt but it's proved too large and sloppy. I think it's also a little thicker than the earlier one, which may have been 1.5mm in fact.

So my next step is to order a 1.5mm, 40mm diameter belt... actually 1.5mm, 39.5mm seems a common size, so maybe that's the one?

But it's more 'trial and error' unless anyone knows the actual dimensions of a VEB-071?

Just to round things off, the 39.5mm inside diameter, 1.5mm square section belt arrived and seems a good fit, snug but not too tight.
