Hello,

I've got a Pioneer LD-V2000 player, was working a few months ago but now I'm running into issues getting discs to play.

Able to get the blue screen to come on and it's able to display if side a or b was inserted. After that I get the first frame of whatever's on the disc to come in and then it freezes on that frame. After a few moments I get that snowy static. Been having a bugger of a time trying to find any information on this model. Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot what the issue might be?

An update after messing around some more:
Found my remote for the player and tried skipping to a different chapter. I got video however it scrolls up and down and the audio is really messed up. Attached is attempt at taking a picture of the issue.

Another update as I learn more about what's going on with this. It's playing the disc the backwards which is probably why I'm only able to get any video when I try to skip to another chapter. Hopefully this will be a better clue as to what I need to look for.

Another update as I troubleshoot this. Got help with lubing up the shafts and cleaning belts. Still no luck as it keeps playing backwards.

Yup, the movie's playing backwards. Was hard to tell at first when I skipped ahead a few chapters and the picture was all messed up. I hit the chapter and time display button on my remote and saw it's playing the movie backwards like its on rewind or something.

Have you opened up the player? could be broken gear or something like that.

I have. Tried lubing up the gear shafts and getting the belts cleaned up but that didn't seem to be the issue. Nothing really seemed broken inside.

Well, finally found what the problem part is.

Bad news, it's the ribbon cable going to the laser head. I've got strong doubts there's any replacements for those around for sale.

Places like Digikey and Aliexpress have a pretty good selection of ribbon cables, you might be able to find a match.

I assume it would also be possible to repair the cable in some circumstances. Maybe determine the bad connection with a multimeter, then patch it with some magnet wire or something. I've seen someone repair lifted traces on a ribbon cable (in a video game system) just by gluing them back down.

This guy had a pretty innovative solution, he used a special machine though:

edit: Also see this vid, looks like it might be for the same kind of ribbon cable used in LD players: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v05eyIk-IQc

Even Mouser could have what you need.
There was some post last week about how to measure for belts, I'm sure there are other online guides to find out what you need to order
correct angles etc.

At least you know what it is now. Maybe get another player and use this for parts.
