Hello Laserdisc friends

I have a question;

What can be the problem with my Pioneer LD-S9.
When sometimes at the end of side A it does not
switch automatic to side B.
Hope someone can help me to solve this problem.
Because he does this more and more.

Kind regards, Harrie Dekkers.

Your player could need new lubrication, my player 909 switch sides but gets into a loop after less than one minute of play on B-side laser goes back to same spot and replays the same scene over and over again.
I will take my player to a repair shop for a lubejob and health check up

If you hear a squeal during the side change operation, very good chance you need to replace the loading belt.

When was the last time it was replaced?

Replacing fan belt on shifting side mechanism is it a difficult job to do?
Do you need to remove plenty of parts to access this mechanism?

Rubber dries from age and eventually breaks, good thing to do is to replace belt for loading mech and the side change mech.

The only challenge might be if you can’t get the tray out because the belt is so deteriorated that it won’t move it. If that was the case, you would spin a pulley wheel a few hundred times to slowly move the transport unit down and then move the tray out.

Otherwise, if the tray does pop out, it’s as simple as this pic indicates.

Replace belt as circled in red. Part VEB-1184.

Thanks for the info.
Did order new belts
And if they arrive will replace the belt
it is at least 8 years ago it was replaced.
Will give notice if it solves the problem

Kind regards Harrie

Best of wishes you get it working .

You could also try and clean the current belt and pulleys with alcohol to see if that might get it working. Sometimes it slips because of a mild amount of grease or dirt got on it.

The gripring may need replacement!
When the disc slips before playback starts the player won’t read the TOC data and it won’t recognize the B side data!
This is an issue with all players using the same loading mech.
After all these years I have yet to come across a player that didn’t need a new grip ring. They all play but after sitting for a while unused the issue comes back with the original grip ring.
These players are often offered for sale because of owners who don’t want to bother fixing it. Players change hands fast these days! There’s always a reason they pop up for sale in today’s world.

If you press side B play to close the door and it immediately goes to side B to play then it is a grip ring issue. Here is the link for a replacement. The description you stated sounds like a grip ring. Good to also replace the load belt while replacing the grip ring.
