Post subject:  [LD-S1] Service Manual

Just picked up a LD S1, what a beast of a player. Little shocking how long and wide it is, but the construction quality is amazing.

I've only played around with it briefly but it has a problem with stopping the disk. I think the clamp mech is dirty, one of my disks continued to spin after hitting eject and you can hear the disk skipping on the spindle when you stop it.

Does any one have the service manual for this player? I've searched high and low on the googles but had no luck.

glad to hear you have an amazing underrated player, I can't be happier with mine.
my only guess is there could be a rubber mat on the spindle that may need to be wiped off????

I don't have the issue you have and don't think I've heard of it before as I know grasshopper had 2 or 3 of them.
so you could try giving him a PM to see what he says.

I don't know how far the LD-S2 is from the LD-S1 but the LD-S2 Service Manual is here:

Thank you for the tip rein-o, we are currently buying a house and packing stuff up. I cant wait to hook up it and play a few movies on it. It may have been because I went from play to eject. I dont have a remote setup for it and there is no stop button on the face of the player. I will have to pm grasshopper.

I saw the S2 service manual but I'm not sure either on how close they are. I know the S2 is physically larger, which I cant imagine.

yeah, 2 different types of machines, also if you hear something then something is wrong, ie slipping etc.
once you take the top off you can see it and should be able to wipe it with a qtip or rag with cleaner NOT acetone.

if that's the issue.
good luck

I have the manual on microfiche, it is completely different from the S2.

Oh man I had to google what microfiche was. Any way to turn that into a PDF for future generations?

Looks like larger libraries should have something that'd work, including hopefully printing/digitization.

(The Uni by me has both scanners and printers, according to their website)

Well a big thank you to Grasshopper. Used his tip on how to clean the spindle clamp, works like a charm. I spun up fifth element and hit eject instead of stop and the problem went away. Also thank you to every one that gave suggestions.

I'm still not sold on the PQ being better than my Proscan psld46. The images seem to be slightly softer, but edges seem better defined. I need to do some side by side comparisons.

Under the lower right door, turn the sharpness contrast all the way clockwise (to right)

Now, sit back and enjoy....

yeah, make sure that knob is turned all the way to sharper, it will be ever so slightly softer but nothing that you would really notice unless
you were watching HQ DVDs or blurays and went to LD then you will really notice.

it will be better than the proscan.

for me there are some discs that i think look better on my CLD-3070 but then i see major chroma noise and picture is slightly better.
just a really nice all analog picture.
and also you may need to adjust your TV or Projector sharpness or NR, you may even have to lower it beyond what you think it should be set at.

First thing I did. I found a copy of video essentials so after I get every thing re-setup my next plan is to setup my tv.
