When the player gets close to the end of the disc side the picture gets fuzzy and then had the "walking" noise and wavy lines. I'm not sure if it's the discs or the laser

The player needs alignment. Hopefully it is not due to the pickup aging as replacements are not available.

What types of discs is it? If a CLV disc has a very slight warping, it can play fine in the start, but you can get wavy lines in the picture towards the end when the RPM drops. I've had this happen on a couple of discs. When I placed the disc on a flat surface, I could almost not see the gap. Wasn't even 1mm, but still enough to create enough imbalance on low RPM to cause laser focus issues. My HLD-X9 also create a rattle tapping noise inside the player if the disc has minor warping (even if it doesn't affect the laser focus), while my CLD-2950 doesn't make that noise.

If this happens even on CAV discs og every single CLV disc you own, then it might be an alignment issue or something like that.

You will need a test disc, oscilloscope possibly a test remote.
OR if you find out where to adjust you could hope and eyeball it, but too much you may burn something out and ruin everything.

Good luck.

Check your PM..

Is this something that just started acting up?

You mentioned at the very end, so that rules out tge Tilt sensor as its off at certain frames at the end of the disc and the beginning and set to a fixed value.

I responded to your PM with detailed questions. Things just don't drift drastically unless it was dropped or you just had it shipped roughly, etc.

Hopefully we can get your S1 fixed up before the Holidays.

Til then, \../
