Hi there, Just got a S9 in from Japan. Due to p**s poor packing, the unit was damaged in shipping. Front corner slightly damaged, mainly cracked with a couple small pieces missing. Opened it up and one of the large tabs on the main tray has broken off. I can glue that back on. I had to force the tray to open by rolling the large black gear with a screw driver. It crunched through something, but at least it finally opened. Finally that little white 'Y' gear is missing the clip to keep it down and has many teeth chewed off. You know, it's very near the front and center. How important is that little gear? What function does the gear and the associated other white piece with teeth perform? I'm sure I can find an e-clip for it and put it back in, but I just want to know how hard I should be looking for one of those gears? Anybody have any parts machines they could sell me one from? Seems to be common in a number of machines. Thank you for your time. -Jeff |

If you are talking about the white gear at the front of the mechanism that moves up and down the missing teeth in a section is the way it is made. The large tab in the back of the tray really just helps support the tray if you leave a disk in it when you stop play. During normal operation it will not matter it is not there. Pictures would help |

Ok. So the tray is now repaired and can move on to this little gear. I tried running the player without the gear. Played side 'A' ok, but had a little trouble tracking the disc. When trying to switch to side 'B', the laser bumped into the metal rod on the tray. I could manually push down on the head and it would flip over fine. Had trouble tracking side 'B' until i pushed down on the head a little and held it, then it tracked fine. So the little gear must have something to do with positioning the head. So I guess I'm on the hunt for the gear and whatever little clip would hold it down. Thanks for any help that you can provide. -Jeff |

This gear adjusts the tilt angle of the pickup, it is definitely needed. If you cannot find one I can help |

Right on. The S9 lives and works properly again. Found a broken 570 (drawer wouldn't open). Tried getting the tray to open, but the head wouldn't go down. I messed and messed with it until i got frustrated and just tore past the drawer. Was able to change the gear over to the S9. Managed to save most of the loading mechanism and the head. Surprisingly, all that is largely identical to the S9. I also have a 59, so it will be nice to have the spare parts. As far as I can tell, all 3 units use the same head part for part. Take care, all. -Jeff |
