Post subject:  [LD-700] No output

I'm new to the laserdisc scene and just got a 1983 LD700 that seems to be working in every way except for outputting a signal. It will intermittently output some audio and video in a short burst of static. I've currently got it apart to check the caps and fuses I haven't found any bulging or leaky caps or blown fuses. Any ideas?

So I assume that you lost audio and video @ the same time? Also, does this burst only occur @ the beginning and how long a burst are we talking about?

Did you start with the easier things first, check cables and clean contacts.

The contacts are all good and I've tried a few different sets of cables too. The bursts of audio and video are at the exact same time ldfan, it only happens after the machine has been on for a few minutes and the bursts last about a second and happen about every 5 seconds I'd say and their the only thing that comes out of the machine.

Did you clean the laser???
Read some topics on how to do it, careful and no Alcohol.

Then other question is, did this ever work for you? Or did you get a broken player to try and fix?

The machine was listed as working. Hasn't worked for me though. I'll try cleaning the laser. Only other thing I can think of adding is about the same interval as the static you can hear a slow down in a motor possibly the spindle not sure though. When the machine is powered on and hooked up shouldn't there be a blue screen like a vcr?

Oh, then you start messing with it its yours.
Either return it or its yours.
If I sold you something like that I would never take it back after you start messing with it.
That's why they used to have those stickers on some electronics to void warranty.

Certainly contact the seller first to see what they want to do.

I doubt this is expensive enough that they would want to foot a repair bill but that is an option. I worked it out with the seller I bought my Parasound HCA 2200 Mark II from because they didn't want to be out shipping twice and have an amp that needed repairs. I made sure to get a fully itemized repair bill from the shop which I scanned and sent them so they knew I wasn't just making it all up. I think they ended up with about $400 in pocket instead of spending probably $200+ in shipping and having a busted amp that way. Also since I am polite I made sure to not file a SNAD claim on them first thing and we avoided any kind of mark on their eBay account.
