| Post subject: | [LD-S9] E3 error |
So.. Trying to troubleshoot this thing..looking for some insight from the experts. I’ll try to be Concise here….. Got a U1 error and replaced the belt..that worked. Now getting E3 error link to a YouTube video of the problem: Got E3, disc wouldn’t eject, pulled it apart and manually opened the tray to remove the disc. Turned the worm gears to move the laser to the backstop of the slider and that seems to re engage the whole mechanism. Then when I power it back on, the laser will slide toward the front and make a loud click..like it’s hitting..or not stopping when the little white stop switch is supposed to engage. Now if I don’t insert a disc and power cycle it and open and close the tray it’ll go through its motions fine 9 times out of 10…but that 1 time out of 10 I’ll get an E3 and I’ll have to manually move the laser carriage to the back position to get it come to life again. If I insert a disc…well, watch the video, the laser makes a weird noise, the video doesn’t start right away and when it does it makes to 12 seconds before randomly jumping back to zero again, all the while, the laser seems to be making weird noises, chapter skip is not possible. After watching the video, does anyone have any insight as to what I should be looking at Thanks in advance Cheers! |

Based on the video and the Pioneer Error codes: [GLOBAL] List of Pioneer Error Codes E3 = Slider problem at clamping stage You seem to confirm the slider of the optical block is the one having issues since you can reset it manually. During slider movement, a time over-run occurred (track count search 20 seconds, mandatory movement 10 seconds) Probable cause(s):
Probably a good idea to focus on the slider! I know the sound sequence of LD-S9 quite well and yours, when playing a disc, seems to spend too much time at each stage... multiple time outs? Julien |

Thank for the info Follow up question. So if the position switch goes bad, does that affect playback?..or is it just for limits on the sled? If so it would explain why the laser can’t keep reading a disc or won’t skip.. |

This could also be a bad spot in the movement motor and it needs to be replaced, I have seen that in players. My first guess would have been the position microswitch. |

Well, I checked the switch and it was fine. I swapped out the entire laser assembly from one I had in a cld-v850 and it works perfectly now. For fun I put the defective one into the v850 to see what would happen and it did the same thing, I think you nailed it with defective movement motor. Thanks all! |
