1) so the tray comes out and quickly goes in.
2) press the pause button then tray comes out.
3) playing Enigma music videos and on the sides (not the playable sides when it lays flat) have nicks on them

any ideas?

So you are getting nicks on the edge of the disc when you play???

I would open it up, you can pretty much see everything inside this player, I just opened mine recently
to clean the laser.

If there are nicks you can see what's making it happen.

Also why it goes in and out right away, wonder if its a belt, but I think I remember seeing a belt with teeth
and those rarely go bad unless its brittle and the teeth fell off?

Why for the life of me I couldn't think of the word edges is beyond me.

I'll open it sometime. maybe tomorrow.

I can't stand both players going bad. I suppose I'll open up the CLD-79 tomorrow too.

this is too weird on this machine but maybe its ok, I will definitely check it out.

tried to disassemble it the bonnet is stuck on there. there seems to be screws on the front piece but those seem only pertaining to the front not the rear so it should slide off fine but it's not. will look again tomorrow this time. any ideas on what could hold it back?

You have to remove the wood sides, then there are some screws under the wood sides and at the very back.
I think you have to pull hard or get your fingers and pull the sides away a little then slide back away from the player.
Or that's what I remember.

First put that same disc in and see why its chipping the edges.

The belt from what I think I remember seeing was just for dropping the platter once the disc was inserted.

I decided to put it back together and wait until I get my table that I can work on as difficult without a work table. I just wish I could get Kurtis to help me since he should still be close by after his move. I am way too nervous to work on the LD-S1 but maybe once I get my table it'd be better.

EDIT Also just checked Roots Search the first disc I Played and there are no nicks on the edges so it could have been the Enigma disc all along but will check once I get a table.

There is one belt to move the tray in and out you can access from the top and the second that raises and lowers the disc is accessible from the bottom. I have not experienced the pause button causing the tray to open. The only way I’ve seen the edges get chipped is the unit unclamps the disc while spinning and the disc jumps around inside the player. Confused about what is happening with your S1.

had a chance to look at this again. this piece fell off from somewhere:

it took a couple of tries to close but in the end the tray did close and stayed close. haven't tested a disc yet.
