Trying to reinsert the drive tray on my CLD-2850, I think I pretty badly misaligned the gears. Can someone give me advice on how to realign the gears? Any help would be greatly appreciated, e.g. where the main gear is supposed to be at in the open position, if the gear that rubs against the teeth on the main gear is supposed to be triangle side down or moving sort of freely, etc.

UPDATE:

I've got the tray aligned, but it still needs help ejecting and closing, and when switching sides (it moves the tray).

Have you changed the loading belt?

Assuming that you never really messed w/ gear alignment in respect that you actually removed them from the player (just removed the tray), the only issue left is a stretched belt not providing enough torque.

Try cleaning the belt and the wheels that it touches w/ a swab + alcohol, let it dry, and then retest. If the unit starts to work better, you can leave it @ that but in reality it's a short term fix and you'll still need a new belt.

BTW.... in case this is still necessary; a pic of the loading gears on a CLD-D701 in the open position...

It looks fine but that doesn't mean much. It could still be a tiny bit stretched.

Have you tried cleaning it w/ alcohol as suggested?

Also, did you actually remove gears or just the tray?

Quick question, what position is the tall gear that pulls the tray in at in the open position?

This is not my picture but judging it I believe the gears are in the open position.

Note a notch in the gear in about the 4 - 5 o'clock position

Have some good news - I managed to get it to open, close, drop down and read a disc, but I still need to get the tray properly in (to a point where the tray will move alongside the gear properly instead of having to push it out and in slightly to push it out).

Here's a picture of the gear that might be chewed up, I could do with probably getting it replaced. If anyone has one from a CLD-2850, CLD-V820 or similar models just lmk

Turns out that I damaged this gear myself during a mod job I was doing w/ my CLD-M90 some time ago (just had to mistakenly re-install the clamper incorrectly :eh: ).

Anyway, the part number is VNL-1326 (Two Stair Gear) and was used on all the "3rd generation" Alpha Turn and M Series LD players. I don't have a spare to provide but here is a partial list of a number of models that used it (US models only).

If a UK-based user would be willing to supply gear this that would be the best case, but I'm willing to get the gear from the US too

Looks like there is one on eBay now.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/278409817907?

Not sure if they are willing to ship to the UK and even so it would probably be expensive.

Yea, I can't really justify forking over £17 before postage just for a single gear.
