I have a mostly-working CLD-D704 I’ve been troubleshooting, and I’ve run into a bit of a wall. When I picked it up it had various issues loading discs and would spin down very slowly, so I replaced the loading belt as well as the grip ring. That fixed most of the issues and it loads/plays discs just fine, though now it has a minor issue only when starting cold.
Basically if the unit has been left off for a few hours with a laserdisc in the tray, when I turn it on it stalls for a bit and then starts to squeal for 8-10 seconds, then it ejects the disc. Once the tray is closed it loads and plays without issue, even if I cycle the power. Problem only recurs if left off for a few hours.
My best guess right now is it’s either the loading belt is slightly out of spec or the top clamp needs to be lubricated. Does anyone have any other thoughts before I pop this thing open again? Thanks!
You need to open the unit and see if it is a mechanical squeal from parts trying to move or a capacitor squealing. Just saying there is a squeal is too vague. If it is a capacitor then you'd start replacing the caps in the power supply.
