Thanks, for the values. Did I miss them in the SM? How did you find them, for future reference, and to not bother folks? [EDIT] I was able to find some of the values but not all of them. C102 & C105 are listed as CKPUYF223Z25 and the diagram only says 0.022 next to it where C101 right next to it is listed as 100/6.3 which makes a lot more sense. Maybe it is a 22uF 25V? Also, C104, listed in the parts list as CKPUYX472M16 has 4 700P next to it but that doesn't correlate to 10uF 16V that d770 stated. Looks like 47uF 16V? Ugh. Also, C14 on the SYPS board isn't listed anywhere but Signofzeta here says its a "little blue 331" which is only slightly helpful. When I search the part numbers online I get a PacParts hit but no stock and no description of the part or values. Looks like I'll have to take this thing apart to find all the correct values. Easy enough to find them and get replacements after I pull it apart but much faster to have the parts in hand when I open it up - Thank You. I have a local electronics store that I buy all my supplies from. It will likely cost me more in gas to drive 15 miles there and back than the parts themselves. Thank You both for all the help and advice. I'll grab parts soon and maybe do the work this week sometime and report back. |

C101, C106, C201 are the only electrolytics I see. They are denoted in section 3.1 of the service manual in the FLKY and PONS schematics. The rest are not electrolytic, and it would be very rare for them to fail. The capacitor part numbers at the end of these manuals are no longer of use. |

I personally wouldn't bother with it since it is a high risk, low reward situation due to the risk of shorting d770 mentioned. |

Thanks again you two. I'm still alive and I got the parts. If you have any advice on getting the faceplate off that would be helpful. I've never had to do that before. |

I can't remember the CLD-99 exactly, but it should be roughly three screws on top and the front unhooks at the top and can be pulled downwards. Carefully unhook the plastic connectors that seat the cables running to the front (some can break easily). Keep the player unplugged throughout. With the front free you can put it face-down on a towel, etc. and then its just a ton of smaller screws holding the boards in. |

Alright, I have parts, the tray is out and the front panel is off! I've removed the FLKY and PONS PCBs and am ready to remove and solder in new parts. However, I'm a little confused about C104 and C105. They both look like little pink resistors with color codes just like resistors. Both are shorted or have no continuity on my DMM. Attachment: All other caps have a measurable resistance on the DMM and look fine (not bulging, leaking or burnt). I'm assuming my issues is C104 and C105 right? d770 says C104 is 10uF/16V but the CLD-99 SM says it is 4700 and the color code on it seems to match (Yellow, Violet, Red, Black, Silver). With that I get 4700uF 20% 900V but please correct me if that isn't it. C105 is a .022uF with a color code of Red Red Orange White or .022, is that right? The SM only mentions it as CKPUYF223Z25 (0.022) which looks like it might be 25V C102 is the same part number as C105 which I don't even see on the board. There is a jumper wire there where the SM says it would be (near C101). I don't see anything that looks like C105 over there. I can't move forward until I know what is going on with C104 and C105 since they seem to be different than previously discussed. The parts I have don't match and the parts I bought perhaps are not needed. Please advise, thanks guys! |

The CLD-D770 does not have the same boards as a CLD-99 and the capacitor values are different. You only need to look at C101, C106, and C201. |

As C++ says The only reason CLD-99 is mentioned in the thread is because it uses the same model Power supply board as the D770 -> VWR1200 |

You've really been helpful and I appreciate your expertise. I'm obviously learning a lot here. So I put in C101, C106, and C201 but no luck. Same symptom: Standby light is on but slowly fades out when the power button is pushed. I guess now I should be looking at C13 & C14 on the Power Supply? I'll wait to hear your thoughts. I went off topic there for a second, but now we're back on the VWR1200 board Thanks again... |

Apologies cant offer much more than what I've learnt already so far myself..! The power board can be tested as described - though it would be easier and far safer as said before to get a tech repairer to run over the unit - C14 would be good to get replaced anyway, as others have noted is a known component failure. Proving the power board is ok or not would be progress. Be Careful - As you may know even removing the power board to give to a tech repairer has inherent danger as primary side caps hold their charge after power is removed. If you decide to goto a tech repairer, suggest providing the SM to them as that should save some time and money. |

If it is not an aluminum electrolytic capacitor, do not worry about it. C14 is, but C13 is not. C28 could potentially dry out over time as well. |

Thanks guys, I will be careful removing the PS. It has been unplugged for a few days now. I'm just not thrilled with having to unsolder the mains power cable to be able to replace a single cap or maybe 2 but I'll get to it soon. This machine will live to spin another disc! C14 and C28 here I come. Stay tuned.... |

There is a little bit of room to work on it without removing it. Removing it does make it easier to work with though. The key is to desolder AC in from under the board, not the top. |

Yes recall it was bit of a pain to remove the PS Board - I recall cutting the AC wires as there is a fair bit of wire length to work with when remaking the connection - though C++'s suggested way to remove from under the board sounds like that work could be easily saved...I will try that next time! |
