Hi everyone !
I just found a cld959 in great condition ! I couldn t resist to buy it, for anly 150$ !
Here are the issues I have from now.

1. Not so important, but chapiter tracking seems to be bad. It works sometimes, but the player can track them usually.

2. I can see some very light vertical waves on the screen during the movie. The waves seems to disapear after 1 hour of watching. It should be old capacitor. But there are so much capacitors on the player, then I don’t know where I can start…

3. CAV discs are sometimes not readable at the end of the disc. It should be a lens adijustement problem.

I suppose that I should start by opening the player , clean the lens with an appropriate lens cleaner. But after that, if someone could help me to restore the player ?

Good to see you're back.

I don't know as much as others but it sounds like it may need tracking adjustment??

Try a CD and this will help to tell you something.

Hi rein-o !
Yeah... lot of things happened during these last 2 years.
I have now an 1 year half boy, and I bought an house in Japan. I had to ask for a loan, etc...
No time for my LD life.
But I try to come back little by little. Then I decide to buy this player to play with^^

When you suggest to ajust tracking, it's about the chapiter problem ?
I will try a CD next day off !

Congratulations.

I can't remember all but if it plays the CD then you can figure out something from that, it will have to do with tracking if it doesn't play.
But I am just going my memory, but this is I know a quick test to make sure possibly centering??
Again I can't remember I just know that if the CD has an issue with playback then its is a possibly easy adjustment?

As you post it could also be dirty laser, bad capacitor. But I know the CD will give you some answers.

I should maybe change the 2 bigs capacitor + the greens with gold around ?

I have some knowledge about soldering but not any about electronics...
I imagine that the big ones can be dangerous to manipulate (I unplugged the player 2 weeks ago, but...)
Should I take some precaution ? What sort ?

ugh, I guess that's not glue under those caps... they probably smell like fish, but if the player is partially working then at least the board traces should be OK.

Yeah, I will change that. But I am a little bit afraid of manipulate such big capacitor.
How long time should I wait after unplug the player until touch it ? 2 weeks, 1 month ?

I don't think a shock from a capacitor will kill you, but you can probably discharge them easily. Try looking for guides on YouTube or somewhere.

For those two caps, I don't consider them all that big (unlike the one's in a lot of older amps) and if there is a shock value I don't think you'd feel it all that much (you can only get shocked if you touch the terminals anyway).

Just replace them as it appears they are leaking and probably a big reason for the issue. If you want, you can also order copper tape if you want to wrap the new caps to keep it looking original to what Pioneer intended (I think they did it for noise isolation).
