Hello, the player is mint has a perfect picture but once it switches sides it skips before the end of side two. Is this a common problem with this model? It now sits in a closet i cannot stand to see it skip of a least 5 minutes each time i use it. Is it a easy fix not wanting to invest much with it the cabinet is perfect.

Hm...mine is a 604 with a similar issue. Once the side change is made, it will skip once at the beginning of the side 2. I plays about 5 seconds and then skips about 10 seconds and is flawless after that.

I've found that as soon as the side change is made, if you pause the player before side 2 even starts, and leave it there for 20 seconds or so, it will play perfectly. Never an issue on side 1.

I'm going to try lubricating the track and gears. I assume that's the issue. I suppose it could also be an issue with the long ribbon cable slightly snagging on something.

The common problem is the Pickup Movement Motor Holder. It hold the Movement Motor and has two gears off the motor gear to transfer to the track. There are plastic pins that hold those two gears in place and they commonly break and one or both of the gears can float. Side A they float down which is toward the track, Side B floating down is away from the track. Replace the part and they work fine. I one time had to replace the gears also to correct the sticking or repeat problem.

I do not have the Pioneer P/N of the part here at work to give you.

I like my player. Both side play, AC-3, decent digital effects, great remote. I assume the 606 is slightly better in some way.

The part is $4, so IMO, you are obligated to fix it just to keep a decent player running like it should be. It would be a real shame to junk such a potentially nice unit.

The part is $4 but after you pay tax, handling and shipping Pioneer will have you up around $15

Player is saved in a closet. Have to decide someday to sell it or send it to KB for repair its a shame because the tuner is perfect on it & im sure that im only the second owner.
