The orange cable is folded within a spring retractor to prevent it from bunching up. Is that what you mean by twisting?
This might illustrate it better....
It would be helpful if you post a pick of the issue.

Hey everyone.. trying to get this guy working. First problem was the tray was not working.. I changed the belt and that is good. The second problem is the A/B mechanism is not turning. The button lights and it moves back to the back but does not do anything. Third and most troubling is the spindle motor is not turning for LD or CD. I tried turning the spindle by hand it is is hard to turn at all. I welcome any thoughts!! Thanks I will also add a video. |

The Pioneer Elite cld-53 I recently bought had issues with opening the door at times and changing to the B side. When I cleaned the belt off it fixed both and now my player will open immediately and turn to side B by itself. However you already replaced the belt on yours so I'm confused on why it's not going to side B. |

So I finally got the unit playing. The spindle motor must have had some stuck grease. I spun it manually for 20mins and it broke whatever was sticking it. So it plays perfectly. The last issue remains. It will not flip or go to side b. Here is what happens in order. I press b.. it moves to the back and does notthing. The light moves back to a and everything freezes. I have to unplug to reset it. I added the video. |

so I got almost everything working. Side b does flip now BUT there must be something off as it sounds and looks like it is going to pull the orange ribbon cable. Is it supposed to twist the ribbon? |

So you basically need to re-thread the orange ribbon cable through the retracting mechanism. Here are some pics showing what a CLD-3070 retractor looks like w/ the cable running through it (B Side). It will be slightly different from the D701 version.    You'll know you have re-threaded it correctly through the retractor as it will keep the cable taut as the laser pick-up moves back and forth. A word of warning; sometimes the spring in the retractor gets displaced and you'll have to re-hook it (see the service manual we have on file for reference). |

This is great thanks. I have to resolder the switch wires. They got pulled out. Also the ribbon does not stay fully in the plastic peice. I will take some pics. |

You have the turnstile flipped the wrong way. Remove the ribbon cable from the retractor, flip the turnstile 180 degrees, and then re-thread the cable. |

Hmm.. it seems that it twists the cable. Unless I'm also removing it from the clip at the very top. |

Yes… also remove the orange cable from where it’s connected in the plug. After you are done re-threading it, the ribbon cables should look like this (circled in red)....

Man this should be super simple. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but It not twists from the other side. So that is how it looked from the start. Your cable does not twist at all? IS the J on the orange cable on the top or bottom? |

Correction on my part (must be old age kicking in); the turnstile was fine the way it is. Might be easier to re-assemble the entire turn mechanism with none of the ribbons running through it. I think the difficulty is that you have it torn apart and that’s making it harder to picture how the cables run within it. I would take my player apart to take more pics but I don’t have time to do it right now. |

Ok here is the disassembled pictures.. lets start over. I just do not know how the orange cable doesnt twist either way. Then how does the orange cable lay.
