Post subject:  [CLD-R7G] No power

Hello to all, hoping you guys can provide some help.

I hadn't watched a LD in a month or two, when to power on my R7G and nothing. Button clicks, but no sound and nothing on the display.
I checked the power cord, even tried a couple other outlets to be sure. Still nothing. I opened the unit up, taking great care to not disturb anything. A basic review of the caps I could see on the power supply board look fine, nothing is bulging, exploded or leaking. Additionally I don't immediately see a fuse or anything that might have popped. Any thoughts from you guys? This is a major bummer, really hoping to have some people over tomorrow night and have them experience the wonders of laserdisc. :-D

Quick search of the forum didn't result in a topic that seemed similar here.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I though there was a fuse on the power supply.
I would double check that, pull it out and make sure that wire is not melted.

You have any storms or anything recently, power strip circuit breaker not popped, power cord not broken somehow, tried a different one to make sure.

It appears there is a fuse hiding behind some other bits and it does look blackened. The question is how does one open the LD disc tray to get it out of the way. Is there a way to manually open the LD tray without damaging the mechanism?

Got it. There was a belt/gear that had to be manually turned. After a couple rotations the tray started to move out and it was easily moved.
The fuse is blown, hoping a replacement is all thats needed and not an indication of other issues. *fingers crossed

Glad to hear you found a blown fuse.

I have read there is a gear and such to manually rotate but guess you figured it out

I had one in the past, very easy to open and get at parts, so I hope its just the fuse, if not I know you can search and find
new power supplies from other players that will also work inside that player, so if you need you can find a donor and swap some parts.

Sadly the fuse replacement pops immediately when plugging into an outlet.
Might have to try to get a replacement PSU board as its likely some cap or something else is bad even if they all look good.

On the plus side, for those curious as this is an import LD player, the fuse is a 125v/2a and the power supply board specifically says 125v on it so I assume the whole 100v japanese power vs 120v us power isn't an issue here.
Not to mention it worked fine for years on US power here.

I'll update after I find a new power supply board.

Does it blow the fuse with absolutely nothing else plugged into it?

nope, fuse is fine until I plug the unit into an outlet, then the fuse immediately pops.
Don't even have the chance to press a power button or anything, just plug in and half second later the flash of light and blown fuse.

I guess I meant with nothing plugged in except for power…

Sorry, that is correct. The only thing I had plugged in was the power source, no other cables connected.

Yes this has been stated in other posts, it will run on 100 or 120 US power.

You will need to make sure something else isn't the issue, you could replace the power to then have the same issues.
If this was working fine and then now not working there is an issue you need to track down.
