Post subject:  [CLD-R7G] Problem after 27mn

Hi everyone!
I have some problems with my LD player. At least I think it’s the player.
When I’m playing a movie the first half of the disc (of one side) looks great.
But around minute 27 the video start to flicker with lines and the quality gets worse and worse.
When it flips side everything looks great again until it reach around the 27min mark.

I recently had it calibrated. So now I feel about lost and don’t know what to do.
Anyone here have any idea what causing this problem?
The YouTube-link shows a recording I did of the problem I’m trying to describe.

Did you try the disc in another player to see if same problem happens again?

Pilla inte på inställningarna om allt var OK innan?

I don’t have another player to test the disc. But the recent three movies I watched has the same problem.

Problem fanns innan också. Så lämnade spelaren till en snubbe som kalibrerar LD-spelare.
Jag har alltså inte pillat på saker själv, och skulle inte lämna spelaren på kalibrering om den funkade bra.

You've got a playback problem with the player.
Does same problem always appear (from) at approx 27 min into the film on all 3 discs?

Something could have happened during transport when you shipped for calibration or when you got it back after?

So far my CLD-R7G still works like a charm.

Yes, Around 27 mins it starts and get worse until the laser swaps side.

I did have a friend driving the unit to the place, and pick it up and deliver it to me. So thats possible that something happned.
Feels abit safer then sending it in a package tho.

I will spend this weekend and see alot more movies. Check the discs before, check lddb if there is reported rot and clean the discs before use and try to document more closely the timings.

Sweet, hope it will work wonders many years ahead!

When you send the player for calibration, did you box it with stötdämpande material to avoid bumps and other nasty sh*t which could happen in transport?

You could try open the lid and see what happens inside the player if you notice anything?

I have never packed a package more careful then this one to be honest haha. Wraped it in like 10 layers of bubblewrap and but it in, foam i think its called. Yes i opened it and everything looks fine. Checked for leaking caps and so on. Looks great.
Will watch a few more movies right now and check.

Does it play CDs

If it's 27 minutes in on all discs then there's probably something physically out of sorts with the way the sled moves on the rail. It could be debris on the track or something else like a cable that wasn't routed correctly. Its a physical problem that should be relatively easy to spot as the player is playing with the cover off.

I agree with the question, does it play CD’s? The spindle motor centering could be messed up. Centering is supposed to be adjusted using a CD, not a laserdisc. Spindle motor centering is more critical as you move toward the outer part of the laserdisc.

It put a cd in and it works perfectly.
Tonight i will spin a LD and see if i get the same problem again.
About the motor. Ive noticed quiet abit of vibration from the player when playing the start of the disc. Can it be related to that of some sort?

Edit: By the way, thanks for replying. Im pretty new to this and got alot to learn.

What you’re experiencing there is a Laserdisc player. LDs spin their fastest at the beginning and slow down as they go on unless it’s CAV in which case it’s max speed all the way through. Only the most massive of players can hide this noise.

I watched your video and I barely see any defect so it’s hard to say what’s going on. Are all your discs from the same collection or did you get them from different places?

Also, totally unrelated, this is the first time I’ve ever see any footage from this movie and HOLY CRAP is it corny and bad! Wow! People really liked this when it came out too! Do they still like it? It seems even dumber than Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood at this point.

Thanks for the info. The player is almost total silence at the end of disc so i understand what ur saying.
The defects are mostly noticeable at the start of my video, but my camera removes almost all of the defects somehow. You can see almost like flashes with a slight decoloration in the movie, they are realy bad in real life.

Hahaha, ye the movie is pretty corny. It has its moments, especially at the start when the movie feels alot more serious and dark. I would not say that this movie is a 10/10. But ive never seen it before so i thought this would be a perfect moment. :)
