I have a Pioneer CLD-R5 that has a few symptoms. I put a new M-Holder and Spindle top (the part that the spring pushes up) as they were broken. But now it seems to have terribly noisy video when playing CAV discs. It will not start CLV discs. Nor will it play CDs correctly. I assume taking the laser out to replace the M-Holder has made the laser go out of alignment, it spits out a P0 Error, but I doubt the issue actually has to do with the spindle.
