Hi,

Picked up this CLD-D702. It was working when I tested it after receiving it, but now when I try to play a disc it sounds pretty rough and just keeps on trying to play without much luck:

I've never owned an LD player before nor looked around one inside. It sounds pretty rough mechanically, I'm guessing maybe first suspicions would be belts. Thoughts?

Thanks.

From the sound, the disc is touching something inside, that's not good.

Was the chassis bent during shipping?
Is the disc warped?

You'll have to open it and check inside visually.

The chassis didn't seem like it was bent in any way at any point. The disc isn't bent either. When I first got the player, it seemed to work OK and I played that disc for a bit, but now it's extremely unhappy as shown. Is it possible a degraded loading belt could result in the tray not seating properly leading to something like this?

First off get all 4 feet on a shelf or floor, doing a tripod deal when playing LDs is not great.

from your video it looks like its on too small of a shelf, this can do a lot when playing LDs.

Those sounds are the laser assembly trying to lock onto the disc data in the older players, this sound would stop as soon as the laser locks onto the disc.
