Hi, I'm new here and to laserdisc players in general. I just purchased my first player, a Pioneer CLD 95 from an estate sale. Its look perfect, came with the box, remote and paperwork and I was told it was never used. I tested it out when I got home and it played Indiana Jones perfectly and sounded great. Then I played a Star Wars Definitive Collection laserdisc and I could hear commentary instead of the movie sound. Then I checked the disk's program notes and it said the main movie sound is on the digital tracks and audio commentary is on the analog tracks. So then with the toslink connected I switched to the digital audio and there was no sound. As part of my troubleshooting process I then tried a CD see if the digital audio out was working at all. I loaded the CD, it recognized it as a CD and displayed "CD" on the screen, I could hear it spinning for about 3-5 seconds but then it stops and the "CD" light starts flashing and the player is unresponsive to the play button. It just continues to flash until I eject the disk.

Does anyone know what the flashing "CD" light indicates on a CLD 95?

Did it come with the remote and or manual?
Search up the manual, there should be one posted on the database somewhere.
After all it says in there let us know what its doing then.

If you are doing digital you should get it through your analog RCA plugs as well as your digital.
You won't get digital out of the analog but you will the other way around.

Yes it came with the remote and manual. I could not find any info in the manual regarding the flashing CD light.

I would try to explain in detail about what I am about to say but my kids are making it hard to find the time to type this up .

Use a swab with a little water on it (no chemicals; only water) and gently clean off the top of the laser pick up lense. Then try playing the CD and LD again.

If it works or not, let us know either way. If it works, I’ll explain more in detail on why that was the case.

That was one thing I tried as well, unfortunately no change.

So in that case, I personally think the issue could be a centering issue or worse could be a weak laser. If either is the issue, CD playback is usually affected the most because alignment is more critical and a weak laser could fail in reading digital audio data.

Addendum…..

I stand corrected by Kurtis. Didn’t think digital audio processing could go bad on an LD player but I guess anything could happen

Since the LD played the analog audio only ( I would say your Indiana Jones movie was actually playing the analog sound just like Star Wars) so either the RF signal is low or you have an issue with the digital audio board. The digital audio sound can fail and not affect LD video or analog sound. Try Indiana again.
