I recently got hold of a Pioneer CLD-950
Cosmetically it is in a rough shape but is does turn on.

I do not own any LaserDisc's (yet) so i am only able to try regular CD's and Video CD's as i own a lot of CDi movies.

When i load a CD the laser assembly moves and is "looking" for a disc but the disc is not spinning at all.
After a while the display just says "No Disc" and the tray stays loaded.

I opened the player and removed the two visible belts (one to the right-front of the tray and the other one for moving the laser assemby).
After soaking the belts in hot water i dried them and placed them back. Still nothing spinning.

Any idea's what would be the issue?

would love to have a working player so i can start sourcing laserdisc movies and have it working next to my CDi player.

When you try to play a CD you should hear the laser move to a first position to check if a LD is installed and then it will move again to check it a CD is installed. If it does this process and you get NO DISC then all you can do is try cleaning the laser lens. If that doesn't work then you have a bad laser or electronics issue.

I have cleaned the laser and it did not solve the issue.

But i wonder how you conclude that the laser is at fault when the drive does not even spin.
The laser needs a spinning disc to "find" a disc i would assume?

Could the motor be the issue? and is that something that can be (easily) swapped or fixed?

What sound does it make?

Cleaning the laser never works. Ok, that ONE TIME but seriously it pretty much never is the issue.

Some players need a spinning disc some don’t. Reread Krbahr’s response again.

No matter the issue it’s HIGHLY UNLIKELY that you’ll find a bolt on fix. This is a LD player not a record player.

If the displays says no disc it is not going to spin. The unit didn't detect the CD being there so why spin when no disc is there.

You need to determine why it doesn't think a disc is inserted, bad laser or bad electronics.

Cleaning the laser worked for me once, it can work for you too if you use the correct tools.
